Lydia

He said, Yes,That means he had questions. I stare into his eyes, trying to hold his gaze for as long as I can, waiting for him to

continue.

You have questions, I reminded him again. He broke our intense eye contact and looked around the sitting room. He wet his bottom lip and spoke.

How did you get this place? I’ve been trying to get this place for a very long time. But I was always met with refusal.

My mouth foamed, an ah,” that possibly couldn’t be what he was curious about. I have my ways,I stated firmly.

It seems he did not want to talk about the questions. He was purposely avoiding them.

Seeing how he had skillfully avoided the questions, I decided not to raise it anymore. I’ll just let things play out well.

My plan to seduce him, however, did not change. I looked over to the bottles on the table. Do you care for a drink?

Sure,he replied.

I stood, walked over there, and grabbed the bottle. I uncorked it and poured it into the glass. Gurgling sounds mixed with the sweet smell of the wine filled the room.

I handed him a glass.

He muttered thanks. Raising the glass to my lips, I took slow sips. This is new,I heard him say.

No, it’s a hundredyearold wine. I got it at an auction in Italy. He moved the glass away from him, staring at it before swirling it, and having another taste.

I would not have noticed if you hadn’t said that.” He paused and continued, You’ve suddenly become good with wine.

I am good with other things.I wiped my bottom lip with my thumb. He just nodded. His wine glass was now empty. I asked if he wanted more, and he affirmed.

We were silent for the next few minutes, the slow song filling the space between us.

When Mason finally broke the silence, I did not expect his next words,

Actually, I wasn’t talking about the wine,he began.

I lifted a brow, I did not think that. What then was he referring to? I was curious, but I didn’t push him. I waited until he was ready to continue.

He pushed his tongue to the side of his mouth.

The dim light reflected on his face. His eyelashes suddenly looked longer, and his chiselled face looked more appealing

Mason is a very handsome man. There was no doubt about that, but right now he was looking so much more inviting.

I bit my lower lip and quickly averted my gaze when his eyes landed on me, gulping down the remaining content of my class.

I was referringyou, mo, us.

Huh?

I wasn’t expecting that. What? I did not ask questions,he said, like he hadn’t just said something that warranted my reaction.

The silence between us is deafening

This was never like us. We always had something to talk about. He smiled and I found myself smiling too. Do you remember? Whenever we were together, there was no silent moment.

Of course, I remember. We spoke all through the night, numerous times without speaking, For the first time in five years, the memory of us did not make my heart break into pieces.

I wiped my smile from my face and inhaled. I remind myself of who the man in front of me is.

An enemy.

Right now, it seems we have nothing to talk about,

We have some stuff to talk about. At least, that was why I invited you over.

I said, reminding him about the questions he had asked, but he brushed it off again, this time.

It is nothing like what we used to have before. What we have between us now feels different.

Obviously, it would feel different. This was five years after his heartless betrayal and abandonment.

I sneered within, There are so many things I’d make you reminisce, Mason. But it would be a step at a time.

Honestly, I did not expect you to unblock me. Especially after you won the contract with Mr. Redmond.

The contract with Mr. Redmond had nothing to do with me blocking you in the first place.

He trailed the top of the glass with his finger.

When you messaged me earlier, it made my heart warm.He admitted. Then he sighed, without lifting his head.

It’s made me happy and, should I say, sad?he lifted his head, Too bad.

Too bad,” he repeated.

I don’t need to ask what he meant before I know. He was getting married to Julia. Too bad she was carrying his child.

I don’t probe him or ask him to continue. I just left him, allowing him to think whatever he wanted.

I have questions. Not just the one we were able to talk about over the phone. I have so many questions, especially when I first saw

you.

No, I did not like the direction this conversation was heading. I have to change it.

This was not the reason why I invited him. He isn’t here to ignite old feelings, no talking about the past.I stated.

I didn’t invite you here to ignite old feelings. He stared down at the contents of the wine.

Then why did you invite me?He asked.

I needed company,I replied, and he whipped his head to look at me. He looked astonished as though he had least expected such words from me.

I reached for my glass, slowly bringing it to my lips, but he stopped me.

You d

don’t like drinking so much.”

I

I guess I changed.I am not this old Lydia who stayed away from alcohol in front of him. I may not be able to hold my drink well, but I don’t need to stop myself from doing what I want to do.

I don’t want you intoxicated.

I can hold my alcohol quite well.

Says the girl who got drunk over a few sips of drinks at the bar.

I pushed my hair backwards, removing it from covering my cleavage. I didn’t respond immediately.

That was in public, this is my home, even if I were to get drunk, it shouldn’t matter to anyone.

After saying that, I brought the glass to my lips, ready to sip from it, I didn’t expect Mason to stop me again.

It matters to me.He held my wrist too suddenly. Some of the wine splashed on my chest. It felt cold as it rolled down to my

breasts.

I didn’t have the time to process what just happened. Mason had scooted over in the next second

I am so sorry. He took the glass from my hand, then he began dabbing my chest with a handkerchief. I didn’t move away.

His hand came in contact with my chest as he was doing that. My dress moved down a bit, exposing more skin.
