Skye’s POV

Adrian pulled a blanket around my shoulders, signaling me to stay quiet. He lifted me in his arms, and once we were away from the bed, he flipped the entire mattress up with one hand. I spotted a woman lying on the floor, staring up at us with terror.

What the hell?

When I had entered Adrian’s hotel room earlier, I had noticed an overpowering sweet scent, but assumed it was just new air freshener the hotel staff had used. Now I understood there was a woman hiding under our bed.

Adrian stepped in front of me protectively and said in a low voice, Stand up. Turn around.

She wasn’t particularly attractive, but she was young. She had light brown hair falling around a round face and wore tight jeans that hugged her slim figure.

The girl slowly rose to her feet. She wasn’t particularly pretty, but she was youngmaybe early twenties. She had light brown hair falling around a round face and wore tight jeans that hugged her slim figure.

But I knew better. Some of the most dangerous assassins in werewolf history had looked just like her. There was that famous Omega chef who once hid a silvertipped dagger inside a fish belly and assassinated an Alpha during a formal dinner.

Adrian clearly wasn’t underestimating her either. His posture stayed tense.

Name?he asked.

She swallowed. Lacey.

Pack?

Ironwater,she said quickly.

Adrian moved forward in a flash and grabbed her right arm. She gasped, but didn’t resist. He yanked up the sleeve.

Her eyes gleamed with something close to admiration.

Nice try,Adrian said, examining her forearm. Wolves from Ironwater have a tattoo of a flaming claw on the right arm. You don’t.

She gave a shy little smile. Alpha Adrian, you’re even smarter in person. I guess I can’t fool you. I’m actually from Cascade Pack.

I stepped forward from behind Adrian, my patience wearing thin.

What were you doing under our bed?

II was drunk. I got the wrong room. I didn’t mean anything by it.she explained hastily, her hands gesturing wildly as if to emphasize her innocence.

You really think we’d believe that?I challenged, crossing my arms over my chest. If you accidentally entered the wrong room, why

didn’t you speak up when we came in? Why hide under the bed instead?

I didn’t trust her. Not after everything Victor had pulled. And now that Adrian was one of five Alpha King candidates, everyone had a reason to come after him. Even Alpha Xavier couldn’t be fully trusted.

She hesitated, then changed tactics.

I’m a content creator. I run a channel. I’m doing a series about the Alpha King candidates. I just wanted exclusive footage. I wasn’t going to post anything private. I swear. I just wanted my big breakl wouldn’t share anything too personal, I swear

Her explanation sounded plausible, but something in her eyes didn’t match her pleading words. There was a calculation there that made

me uneasy.

Call Alpha Morgan,I told Adrian. We need to verify her identity.

The girl grabbed my hand in panic, her fingers cold and clammy against my skin.

No, please don’t! Alpha Morgan is very strict. She’ll punish me severely! She might even banish me from the pack!

If you want to stay in your pack, you’d better start telling the truth.Adrian demanded, his eyes flashing with impatience. You said you’re a social media star. Where’s your phone?

The girl clutched her tight jeans pocket, knuckles turning white as she was clearly reluctant to surrender her device. Whatever was on that phone, she was desperate to keep it hidden.

Hand it over,Adrian said.

She didn’t move.

I stepped forward, took her wrist, and slipped my hand into her pocket. I pulled out the phone.

Password?I asked, holding it out.

She looked at Adrian with a soft, pleading gaze. When she realized he wasn’t going to help her, she typed in the code.

I scrolled through her gallery. Mostly harmlessvlogs, selfies, coffee photos. But one locked folder caught my eye. It was labeled PRIVATE.

Open this,I said.

She shook her head firmly, suddenly defiant despite her vulnerable position. That’s private. You have no right to look through that,

I didn’t argue. I mindlinked Garrett.

Me: Garrett, come to Adrian’s room..

Garrett: What’s going on?

Me: Just come. We need you.
