Emily Blair knew she couldn't stop her. Emma George had to hit rock bottom, to crash and burn, before she would ever see the truth. Emma was still pleading, “Can I?” She looked down, her voice a mix of nervousness and sorrow. “You were supposed to be born a Gomez, a child of the Austin family. You've suffered so much because of me, and you deserve to be reunited with your real family. At the very least, they can help you with your career. The Austins are a powerful family with deep roots. If you reconnect with them, you’ll…” Emily cut her off. “Then go,” she said softly. Emma’s eyes lit up, a smile spreading across her face. “You’ll let me go see them?” Instead of answering, Emily asked, “How are you going to see them?” High on excitement, Emma replied without thinking, “The same way as before. I’ll wait for them at their gate. Since we were strangers then, it was understandable they didn't believe me. But if I talk to them more, they might just come around.” Emily shut her down immediately. “No.” The smile froze on Emma’s face. “What? You’re… you’re taking it back?” Emily’s mind flashed back to her past life. Isabella Austin couldn't have pulled off all her schemes alone; her parents were definitely pulling the strings, which meant they were ruthless. If Emma just showed up like that, Emily worried she would provoke their anger and get hurt. “I’m not saying you can’t go,” Emily clarified. “I’m saying we need to find the right time and place.” Emma didn’t quite understand. “What’s the right time and place? I think my plan is perfectly fine.” “If you ambush them like before, what’s to stop them from calling security to throw you out?” Emily reasoned. “Even if you do wait for them, how many times will it take to catch them? It’s a waste of time.” Emma was speechless. “…That’s true.” “Their attitude toward you is crystal clear,” Emily continued. “There’s no way they’ll agree to meet you, and they’ve probably blocked your number already. We need to find a setting where they’ll at least have the patience to listen, a place where they can’t just throw you out or walk away.” Hearing this, Emma felt lost. “Then what should we do?” “We’ll wait,” Emily said calmly. “I’ll find an opportunity.” Doubt flickered in Emma’s eyes. She opened her mouth, then closed it again. Emily saw her hesitation. “Don’t worry. I always keep my promises. I won’t back out.” Emma cautiously watched her expression, as if worried she might be angry. Despite her misgivings, she finally agreed. “Okay, I understand.” “Go get some sleep,” Emily said. Her voice was quiet and devoid of emotion, yet Emma seemed anxious and fidgety. She stood up immediately, unsure of what to do with her hands and feet. After a moment of awkwardness, she suddenly reached out and placed her hand on Emily’s forehead. She quickly pulled it back. “Good, the fever’s gone. Don’t forget to take your medicine.” Emily looked at her with clear eyes. “I already took it. Go to bed.” Emma nodded nervously and turned to leave. Lying back down, Emily picked up her phone. Her assistant still hadn’t messaged her.
