My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 1083

Once Isabella’s parents finally understood what was at stake, they stopped coming to the police station. They told the officers, again and again, that their daughter had passed away and insisted that Juliana Silva was nothing but an imposter.

After that last visit, they kept their distance and didn’t get involved anymore. Still, rumors about Juliana Silva and Isabella Austin kept swirling around outside, no matter how hard they tried to separate the two identities.

Benjamin Gomez was doing everything he could behind the scenes. He hired lawyers, called in favors, tried every trick in the book to get Isabella out, but nothing worked.

He even thought about meeting with Emily Blair, but she turned him down every time. Both Benjamin and Isabella were drowning in scandals of their own, too busy to bother Emily lately.

Emily had a feeling Isabella might want to see Tate Vargas. He was the one person who had no messy history with her. A meeting wouldn’t change anything in the case.

Not long after, a police officer returned. Tate sat up, hope flickering in his eyes, but the officer just shook her head, looking apologetic. “She doesn’t want to see you. She said she doesn’t know any biological father.”

Tate’s hope faded. He patted his knee and let out a long, tired sigh.

“What should we do now?” he asked, voice trembling.

Melisa leaned down and patted his back. “Dad, don’t worry. This is all happening so fast. Anyone would be on guard if a stranger showed up claiming to be their real dad. Give it some time. I’m sure you’ll get to see her eventually.”

Before he could respond, two officers rushed in, holding a file, their faces tense. The female officer who’d been talking with Emily hurried over. “Did you get it?”

The two officers glanced at Emily, then nodded, waving the file. “We got it.”

“What does it say?” the female officer asked.

One of them handed over the file. “See for yourself.”
