Tanner grinned. “Tristan, come on, tell me I’m the best wingman you’ve ever had.”
Tristan lifted an eyebrow and gave a satisfied nod. “You did pretty well.”
Emily felt her ears get hot as she glanced at Tristan. He looked way too pleased with himself, glancing down at her with that playful eyebrow of his.
Tanner laughed again and turned to Emily. “So, Isabella, I’m stealing Tristan away for a bit, okay?”
Emily shrugged. “Go ahead.”
Tristan reached out and gave her cheek a soft pinch, then leaned in close. “Don’t forget to miss me today.”
Before Emily could say a word, Tanner let out a loud cheer from the car.
Emily rolled her eyes and swatted Tristan’s hand away. “Just go. You’re keeping him waiting.”
Tanner must have been listening in, because he immediately called out, “No worries, Isabella! I’m not in a rush. Take your time, you two!”
Tristan snickered. “See? He says he’s not in a hurry.”
Emily shook her head. “Well, I am. If I don’t leave now, I’ll be late for work.”
Tristan’s eyebrow shot even higher. “That’s new. The boss is worried about being late?”
Emily narrowed her eyes at him. “It’s called setting an example. Someone has to do it.”
Tristan crossed his arms. “Alright, go on, boss lady. I’ll wait for you to come back and sweep me off my feet.”
Emily couldn’t help but laugh. She pulled the car door shut, rolled down the window, and gave him a sideways look. “If you want me to take care of you, you’d better work for it. I like my guys young and with an eight-pack.”
She rolled the window back up before he could reply, started the engine, and drove off, leaving Tristan standing there, staring after her car in disbelief.
After a moment, he let out a helpless laugh and shook his head.
