My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 1144

Isabella’s mom seemed to relax, her tone gentler now. “You’re right. I let my nerves get the best of me. I hope you both can forgive me.”

Amelia let out a long breath she hadn’t realized she was holding. “It’s alright, really. I get it. If it were me, I wouldn’t be calm either, not with Isabella in trouble.”

“You’re both such good kids,” Isabella’s mother said, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. She quickly wiped them away before continuing. “So, did you come here to tell us something?”

The past few days had been nothing short of exhausting for Isabella’s parents. They ran themselves ragged, desperate to help their daughter in any way they could. The rest of the Austin family, though, wanted nothing to do with the scandal. They wished they could cut ties with Isabella completely, pretending none of this had anything to do with them.

Because Isabella’s parents were going against the family’s wishes, they got no support. Grandpa Austin, the family’s head, had put his foot down, ordering everyone else to keep their distance. He’d even suspended Isabella’s father’s position at the company, just to make a point.

That left Isabella’s parents alone, scrambling to reach out to old friends and contacts, searching for help wherever they could find it.

But it was useless. Every door they knocked on was either slammed in their face or opened just enough for someone to say, “There’s nothing I can do.”

After all this time, they were still stuck. No answers, no solutions, just endless circles.

Isabella’s mom looked desperate now. She clutched Amelia’s hand tightly, her voice trembling. “Amelia, please, just be honest with me. Is the Lane family planning anything?”

Amelia froze, suddenly feeling awkward and exposed.

The truth was, she’d come here on a whim. The second she heard about Isabella’s situation, she wanted to rush to the city, but somehow her grandfather found out. Grandpa Kevin did everything he could to stop her. He even locked her in her room, refusing to let her leave the estate.

Amelia didn’t dare go against her grandfather. She waited, frustrated and anxious, trapped in her room. She pretended to behave, never bringing up Isabella again. Finally, just yesterday, Grandpa Kevin let her out.
