My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 1153

The driver squinted at the man in the other car. There was something familiar about his face, but he couldn’t figure out where he’d seen him before. He knocked on the tinted window and said, “Would you mind moving your car? We need to get out.”

Andrew’s assistant cursed under his breath, but he forced a polite smile. “Sorry for the trouble, but Mr. Lane would like a moment to speak with Ms. Blair.”

The driver blinked, momentarily thrown. “What was that?”

The assistant nodded toward the back seat. “That’s Mr. Lane, right there.”

Following the gesture, the driver peered into the darkness. The interior was shadowy, the sky outside already pitch black, making it nearly impossible to make out the man’s face. Still, even with the limited light, there was something about the man’s presence—a quiet authority that was hard to miss.

The driver had been with Emily Blair for a couple of years and seen enough big shots to know when someone important was in front of him. He quickly straightened up, gave Andrew a respectful nod, and hustled back to Emily’s car.

He opened the door and glanced at her. “Ms. Blair, that’s Mr. Lane in the other car. He says he needs to speak with you. Should I let him?”

Emily’s expression tightened right away. “Andrew Lane?”

“Yes, ma’am,” the driver replied.

Emily’s mind flashed back to the message she’d seen last night. Andrew Lane had said he was leaving, yet now here he was, blocking her in. This definitely wasn’t some casual drop-in.

She didn’t want to see him, but his car was parked so deliberately in her way that if she didn’t deal with it, she might be stuck here all night.

Her voice was cool. “Tell him to come here.”

If he wanted to talk, he could put in the effort.
