Emily’s brow creased as she stood there. She and Andrew Lane both knew exactly what day he was waiting for. He wanted to see her and Tristan Davis fall apart. Andrew never bothered to hide it. His intentions were written all over his face.

Without glancing over, Emily said, “You should go now, Mr. Lane.” She didn’t have to look to know that Andrew’s eyes were still glued to her. After a few seconds, he finally turned and walked away.

Emily waved to her driver, signaling for him to bring the car around. She pulled out her phone and opened her chat with Tristan. Only now did she see he’d messaged her.

Are you busy?

She replied, Not really, then quickly added another message. Did you and Andrew Lane get into a fight?

She waited a bit, but Tristan didn’t write back. She didn’t mind. She tossed her phone aside.

Up ahead, Andrew’s black car pulled away, clearing the road. Finally, it was quiet again. Her driver merged the car smoothly into traffic.

Meanwhile, Tristan stepped out of the shower, still dripping. Water slid down his toned body, soaking into the towel around his waist. He grabbed another towel and ran it through his hair, not really caring how messy it got, then shuffled over to the sofa in his slippers.

He checked the time. Almost twenty minutes had passed since he sent his message.

Picking up his phone, he saw a notification. Emily had replied. For a second, his heart jumped. He opened their chat, only for that excitement to crash and burn.
