Even though Tristan Davis had plenty of issues with Andrew Lane, that night he was honestly grateful Andrew had been there. If it weren’t for him stepping in, Emily Blair could’ve gotten seriously hurt, and Tristan couldn’t even bear to think about that.

Emily was everything to him. He treated her like she was made of glass, careful with every word and gesture. He wouldn’t even raise his voice at her, so how could those men have the nerve to go after her?

Just imagining what could have happened if nobody had helped. If Emily had been left there, drugged and alone, the thought alone made Tristan’s stomach twist and his anger burn so hot he could hardly think straight.

He was determined to find everyone who laid a finger on her. Even Benjamin Gomez would have to answer for it.

But Tristan kept all of that to himself. Instead, he just looked at Emily and said, “Things are still crazy with the Isabella Austin situation. Just promise me you won’t go anywhere alone for a while. Always have someone with you, okay?”

Emily understood, even without him spelling it out. “I know. My secretaries are always around.”

Tristan frowned, thinking it over. Her secretaries were mostly office workers, not exactly the type who could handle trouble if it showed up. He felt a wave of frustration at himself for not realizing this sooner.

“I can’t be with you all the time, and honestly, your secretaries aren’t really cut out for that kind of thing,” he said. “Let me hire a couple of bodyguards for you. That way, I’ll actually be able to relax.”

Emily was about to say no, thinking the only reason she’d gotten into trouble at the engagement party was because she hadn’t been careful enough. She’d learned her lesson and was sure it wouldn’t happen again, especially since she was always on guard now with her secretaries close by.

But when she saw the way Tristan was looking at her, worry written all over his face, she swallowed her protests and nodded. “Alright. You set it up.”

They talked for a few more minutes, then hung up.

As soon as the call ended, Tristan grabbed his phone and contacted someone to arrange for two tall, tough-looking bodyguards to stick with Emily. The response came quickly, promising the men could start tomorrow. Tristan transferred the money for a whole year’s salary on the spot, then messaged Emily to let her know the bodyguards would meet her at Vertex International the next day.
