My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 1185

Emily shrugged. “The front desk didn’t recognize me and wouldn’t let me up. It’s your company, after all, so I figured I should play by the rules. They called your secretary, and he brought me upstairs.”

Tristan frowned, looking a little annoyed. “I’ll talk to them. Next time, they won’t stop you.”

Emily smiled, her lips curving in amusement. “Alright.”

It was pretty late. Most of the people on Tristan’s floor had already headed home. Only his secretary, Daniel Perez, was still around.

Daniel leaned on his desk, chin in his hand, watching as Tristan and Emily strolled over hand in hand. He only peeked up for a second before ducking his head again, quietly shuffling through some paperwork.

Tristan got back to work while Emily curled up on the guest sofa, totally absorbed in a matching game on her phone. She was lost in her own world. Tristan, though, couldn’t seem to focus. Every few minutes, he’d steal a glance at her.

Daniel hovered nearby, helping Tristan with a few last work details. He noticed everything but kept his thoughts to himself.

Tristan finished up in record time. Not even half an hour later, he was done and ready to head out with Emily.

As they walked out together, Emily glanced down at her hand, still wrapped in his. “Have you eaten yet?”

Daniel, following behind, did his best to shrink into the background.

Tristan looked at Emily. “No, not yet. Will you join me?”

Emily ignored him and turned instead to Daniel, who looked like he wanted to disappear. “Daniel, have you eaten?”

Daniel looked startled, glancing nervously at Tristan before answering. “Not yet, but dinner’s waiting at home for me.”

Emily nodded. “Alright.” Then she looked at Tristan. “I haven’t eaten either. Let’s find a restaurant.”
