My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 1189

Amelia leaned in, her voice soft but firm, making sure Dennis remembered every word. “Dennis, you know who I’m talking about, right? Emily Blair. She’s the one who always talks badly about your mom. She’s the reason your parents fight all the time. She’s really, really awful. And now, she’s taken your mom away and won’t let her go. With your mom out of the picture, she’s trying to get close to your dad. Who knows, maybe soon she’ll actually become your stepmom.”

Dennis, still just a kid, had no idea that Amelia was trying to turn him against Emily. His eyes filled with angry tears. “How can she do that? She’s the worst! I don’t want her to be my stepmom. I hate her. I really don’t like her at all.”

Tears streamed down his face as he clung to Amelia’s hand. “What about Dad? Did he say yes to her?”

Right then, Dennis seemed so small and fragile, like he might fall apart if Amelia even nodded.

Amelia shook her head, her answer quick and sure. “No, your dad can’t stand her either. He’s tired of her, just like you. That’s why, Dennis, you have to do your part too. Promise me you’ll never like Emily Blair. You have to hate her, always.”

Dennis balled his fists, nodding hard, his face set in determination. “Okay, I’ll always hate her. I’ll never like her, ever. If she tries to come near me, I’ll hit her, I’ll bite her!”

Amelia smiled gently, running her hand over his hair. “Good boy.”

Once she finished putting medicine on his hand, Amelia set the ointment aside and helped Dennis settle into bed.

He hesitated, looking nervous. “But Auntie, Grandpa said I have to finish my worksheets.”

Amelia pressed him down softly and pulled the covers up. “Grandpa was just trying to scare you. You don’t have to do them. Just rest, alright?”

She tucked him in, but Dennis reached out, grabbing her fingers. “But Auntie, what about my mom? Isn’t there some way to help her?”

Seeing his red, tear-stained face made Amelia’s heart ache and she almost changed her mind.

She spoke gently. “Dennis, you really want your mom to come home, don’t you?”
