My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 348

The man’s words grew more outrageous with every sentence, his agitation mounting until even Emily Blair, standing outside the office door, could see how he practically shouted at the people inside. His voice seemed to reverberate through the entire floor.

Inside the office, his tirade drowned out everything else. The only sound was his booming voice.

The walls were made of frosted glass—Emily could just make out a crowd inside, pressed shoulder to shoulder, but not a single one of them spoke.

Suddenly, the man barked, “Say something! Have you all lost your tongues? Not a single word? Solutions, that’s what I want! I don’t need a roomful of silent statues! I’ve given you and the higher-ups have given you more than enough time to come up with answers. It’s been days. There are plenty of you—can’t even one person come up with a solution? Is this how you handle your jobs?”

Still, silence.

Bang!

A thunderous crash rang out. Emily jumped, even through the wall; it must have been even more terrifying for those inside.

“I’m talking to you! Cat got your tongues? Speak up! If you won’t say anything, you can pack your things right now!”

Finally, someone spoke in a low, hesitant voice: “It’s not really our fault, is it? This was caused by someone else—why should we be the ones to deal with the fallout?”

“Exactly. We should get in touch with Emily Blair, have her make a public statement, and make her apologize to Isabella and her fans. Our PR team can draft the apology for her—make sure it’s perfect, so Isabella’s fans don’t find any excuse to stir up more trouble.”

The office filled with voices, each person speaking earnestly, their words clear and deliberate.

Emily listened in silence, her face calm and unreadable.

After a while, Mr. Adams, still red-faced from his outburst, finally seemed to regain his composure. He nodded in agreement.
