My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 439

“Alright.”

Tristan Davis folded his arms across his chest, leaning back against the cushion. He raised an eyebrow and said, “Well, go on then. Let’s see what you’ve got.”

Xavier Gonzalez, clearly excited, immediately grabbed the textbook and placed it in the center of the table. He pulled his laptop from his bag, opened up the code he’d written earlier, and began explaining his process to Emily Blair and Elizabeth Wilson.

Tristan listened quietly from the side, but after hearing a few of Xavier’s points, he frowned in clear disapproval.

Emily was listening attentively to Xavier, but as he reached a particular section, she raised a question.

Tristan’s frown deepened, and he cut off Xavier’s reply. “Emily, that’s the kind of question I stopped asking when I was twelve. How are you guys only just now learning this?”

Xavier and Elizabeth exchanged awkward glances.

Emily shot Tristan a cold look. “Then what’s your insight?”

He didn’t look at her, just tilted his chin upward. “If you want my help, you’ll have to ask nicely.”

Without missing a beat, Emily smacked his arm.

Tristan glared at her, barely holding back his irritation. “Emily! Did you just hit me again?”

She gave a frosty little smirk. “If I don’t, you’ll apparently forget the promise you just made me.”

Tristan’s expression stiffened, but with obvious reluctance, he pointed at a line of code. “Here, this part…”

His words were crisp and incisive, his logic leaping from step to step. Emily kept up with some effort, pressing him with follow-up questions.

But this time, instead of being impatient, Tristan answered every single one. Even though he looked perpetually annoyed, he explained everything, step by step, no matter how many times Emily asked for clarification.

As he spoke, he watched her expression closely, only relaxing when he saw the confusion leave her face.

Meanwhile, Xavier’s eyes sparkled with interest, and Elizabeth nodded to show she understood.

All three of them actually followed his line of thought.

Tristan smirked, raising an eyebrow. “Impressive. Most people can’t keep up with me.”

Rolling her eyes behind his back, Emily turned to Xavier. “Ignore him. Go on.”

Xavier took a moment to enjoy Emily’s obvious annoyance, then rapped his knuckles on the table. “Alright, my turn. Listen up.”

Tristan led the way out, with Emily trailing behind, her arms full.

Elizabeth remarked, “It’s really late, and it’s dark already. Mr. Davis, why don’t you walk home with Emily? You guys live in the same place, after all.”

Tristan shook his head. “I’m not heading back. I’ve got something to take care of first.”

With that, he strode off without another word of goodbye.

Elizabeth looked a bit surprised.

Emily glanced after Tristan’s retreating figure. “Don’t worry about him. I can get home by myself. You two stay safe.”

After spending several days working together, Emily had become more and more convinced that Tristan’s background was anything but ordinary.

Graduating from a top international university at nineteen? That was no average résumé.

Tristan rarely came back to the apartment. Even when teaching them computer science, he only showed up every other day, always in a hurry, just like that very first day.

Emily had no interest in digging into Tristan’s past, so she never asked him anything personal. She’d also warned both Elizabeth and Xavier not to let their curiosity get the better of them.
