My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 440

The final practice exam before the entrance test was over, and Emily Blair had once again taken first place in the school.

As she was leaving, Maxwell Perez called her into his office and tried to persuade her. “Emily, there’s only two weeks left until the entrance exam. Don’t you want to come back and study here? I know your grades are excellent, but it wouldn’t hurt to play it safe...”

Emily rejected the offer without hesitation.

She wasn’t your average student. She had lived this life before, and she remembered all the questions from this year’s entrance exam.

That alone would be enough to get her into the most prestigious university in the country.

Seeing her resolve, Maxwell couldn’t say much more and had no choice but to let her go.

In the days leading up to the entrance exam, Tristan Davis seemed to vanish. Emily tried calling him several times, but he never answered. Her texts went ignored as well.

Nearly half a month passed, and Tristan was nowhere to be found.

Emily eventually assumed he’d lost patience and had no intention of tutoring them anymore. So after that, she stopped reaching out.

The night before the entrance exam, Emily drank the “top student’s soup” that Emma George insisted she finish—a hearty, sweet concoction that left her stomach uncomfortably full. To help digest, she went outside for a walk.

She sat down on a stone bench in the yard, gazing up at the sparse stars in the night sky, letting her mind wander.

The “top student’s soup” was Emma’s invention—a big pot of sweet, black sesame dumplings, supposedly infused with good luck for every subject. Emily was stuffed, hiccupping all the way outside.

She sat in silence for a while.

“What are you doing out here?”

Tristan’s voice came out of nowhere, making Emily look up in surprise. She met his usual mocking, cool gaze.

She blinked, a little dazed, before regaining her composure. “…Why are you here?”

Tristan, as usual, found plenty to complain about, and her question was no exception. “Why not? I rent a place here too. Why shouldn’t I be here?”

Emily frowned. “I thought you’d already left.”

Tristan’s expression had started out sour, but gradually it softened. He smirked and sat down beside her on the bench. “What, did you miss me? I haven’t even been gone that long.”

Emily rolled her eyes, lips curling in a half-hearted smile. “You’ve been running around all this time. Did you forget what you promised me? I thought I was the only one who remembered.”

Tristan looked caught off guard. He pressed a fist to his mouth and coughed awkwardly. “Of course I didn’t forget. I just… had things to take care of, that’s all.”

“Things to take care of? So busy you couldn’t even answer a call or reply to a text?” Emily shot back with a cold laugh.

Tristan coughed even louder, glancing away and rubbing his nose uncomfortably. “I changed my number. Didn’t get a chance to tell you guys.”

He pulled out his phone. “Here, add my new contact. I’ll make more time to tutor you from now on, alright?”

Emily turned her head away. “Don’t have my phone on me. I’ll settle accounts with you later.”
