My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 484

Elizabeth lifted her chin, her tone commanding. “Bring him in and lock him in the conference room. There’s nothing I need you for right now, so stay put until Emily Blair gets back.”

To everyone’s surprise, Tristan Davis was remarkably compliant. “Fine by me. As long as Emily’s happy, I don’t care how long you keep me there.”

Elizabeth gave a short, dismissive laugh. “You really think I’d believe that? Xavier, take him away.”

Xavier glanced nervously at Tristan’s face, then gave a subtle nod and led him out.

Back when Andrew Lane first insisted that Emily negotiate the game licensing deal in person, Sadie had already passed the message along. But it wasn’t until today that Andrew’s assistant finally confirmed the details—time, place, everything.

When Emily arrived, she sat in her car for a few moments before stepping out. Only now did she realize just how nervous she was—her breath slow, heart pounding, palms slightly damp with sweat.

Her days with the Lane family felt like a lifetime ago.

Five years. Just like that.

She couldn’t help but laugh quietly at herself, an odd little sound catching in her throat. Home soil, old nerves.

A server in a crisp suit was waiting anxiously by her car door, clearly unsure what to do. Not wanting to inconvenience him, Emily got out right away.

She’d barely taken a few steps when a voice called out, “Ms. Blair, Mr. Lane is already waiting for you in the private room.”

The voice—

Emily paused, turned, and studied the speaker.

Her brows lifted slightly in recognition.

This wasn’t a restaurant server at all. It was Andrew Lane’s assistant.

One wall of the room was all glass, and as the door swung open, a shaft of sunlight cut across the floor, bright and blinding. Emily narrowed her eyes against the glare.

Dust motes danced in the air, the cool breeze from the AC stirring the fine strands of hair along her cheek.

“Ms. Blair, please, come in.”

Andrew Lane had been watching the door since the moment he heard it open.

A flash of red caught his eye—the hem of a dress brushing against pale, slender legs. As the door swung wider, his gaze was almost desperate as it traveled upward.

His eyes met hers, and his expression flickered.

She was taller than he remembered. Over these years, Emily Blair had changed.
