Tristan’s eyes sparkled with mischief as he leaned in, grinning wickedly. “Wanna hit me again?”

Emily smiled sweetly. “Actually, I take it back. Maybe you shouldn’t go to work today. Might be smarter to check into a hospital and get your head looked at first.”

Tristan wasn’t the least bit bothered by her jab; if anything, he scooted even closer. “No, seriously. Hit me again. Come on.”

That slap earlier—Tristan couldn’t even put it into words.

It was like a bolt of lightning, a volcano erupting, fireworks in the night sky, a symphony and a boxing match rolled into one.

Emily paused to reply to a work message, her fingers flying over her phone. After a moment, she glanced up, all business. “Dennis, would you quit messing around already?”

Tristan fell quiet for a beat, then leaned in and lowered his voice. “By the way, the director of ‘Arcadia’—Mr. Parker—he’s here. Right in this city.”

Emily blinked, caught off guard. “He came to the States?”

Tristan folded his arms, eyeing her with lazy amusement. “Yep. So, are you interested in what I have to say now?”

Emily set her phone aside and gave him her full attention, her expression turning serious. “Alright, I’m listening.”

Something about her earnest face was just too much for Tristan to resist. He reached over and pinched her cheek.

Emily clicked her tongue in annoyance.

Tristan quickly withdrew his hand. “I heard you were coming to The Lane Family to negotiate the game rights, so I started paying extra attention to what’s going on with Arcadia’s crew. Turns out, Mr. Parker’s here to scout for actors, specifically Asian talent. He’ll be around for the next few days. I’ve got a friend on his team—if you’re interested, I can find out his schedule for you.”

“Why didn’t you tell me sooner?” Emily’s gaze sharpened. “Tristan, what do you actually do for a living?”

“Sooner? Come on, Emily, you’re one to talk. You ran off to Aetheria to find Mr. Parker and didn’t breathe a word to me. I only pieced it together and confirmed it today,” Tristan shot back, arching an eyebrow. “Anyway, do you want the info or not?”

“Of course I do,” Emily said, fixing him with a look. “But I still want to know—how did you find out Mr. Parker’s schedule, exactly?”
