My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 580

“This ends here?”

“This ends here?”

As soon as Andrew Lane spoke, two voices echoed through the room.

Ryan Cox let out a cold laugh. “There’s no way this ends here. If Emily Blair thinks she can pull a stunt like this, she’d better be ready to face the consequences.”

Emily had been about to snap back at Andrew, but Ryan’s words made her scoff instead. “Fine, Mr. Cox. I’m curious just how shameless you’re willing to be.”

She snatched up the nearest intact wine bottle and stalked toward Ryan, but Andrew caught her wrist before she could get close.

She spun around to glare at him. “Let go.”

Andrew leaned in, his voice low. “Emily, are you really trying to get yourself arrested?”

A hot wave of anger surged in her chest. “This is none of your business. Stay out of it.”

“That’s enough.”

Andrew pulled her firmly back, voice tense.

Eugene Brian jumped in to defuse the tension, forcing a sheepish smile as he helped Ryan Cox over to sit on the edge of the bed, pulling a blanket over his shoulders. “Mr. Cox, please, take a seat and rest for a moment. You’ve had quite a shock.”

Once Ryan was settled, Eugene turned to Emily, hands raised in a placating gesture. “Let’s all calm down, alright? There’s no need to get worked up. Ms. Blair, please put down the bottle. It’s making everyone nervous.”

Emily pressed her lips into a tight line, ignoring Eugene and fixing Andrew with another icy stare. “I said, let go.”

“Don’t do anything reckless,” Andrew said, his tone grave.

From the edge of the crowd, Isabella Austin watched Andrew’s hand gripping Emily’s wrist. Her eyes darkened, but she stepped forward and spoke in a gentle voice.

Why were Andrew and the others trying to stop her?

Eugene Brian tried again, his tone all appeasement. “Ms. Blair, we understand your assistant’s been wronged, and of course we’ll make a formal apology—come by in person, if you’d like. But you know how it is; Mr. Cox is a public figure. Surely we don’t want this to get out of hand, right? I mean, I’m sure you get where I’m coming from.”

Emily understood perfectly.

The truth was, Donna Thomas was just an ordinary assistant, with no connections, no family name. Ryan Cox was a nationally known businessman.

They’d already weighed the scales in their minds, and Emily knew which way they tipped.

She’d always hated this kind of thing.

And she still did.

After a long silence, Emily finally set the bottle down. “Let go of me. I’m done.”
