My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 582

Mila’s face lit up with joy as she darted out from behind Jordan Wilson, flinging her arms around his neck and chirping sweetly, “Thank you, Dad! And thank you, Emily!”

Jordan gave her a fond pat on the arm, looking pleased.

I watched the scene, my expression cool and detached. Digging my nails into my palm, I finally said, “It’s all right. I can always move in with the Lee family.”

The room fell silent. Everyone stared at me in disbelief.

Willie Lee’s brow furrowed; disapproval was clear in his eyes. That familiar look of disdain and annoyance again.

I blinked playfully at him and smiled. “After all, Willie and I are married. Isn’t it only natural for a husband and wife to live together?”

“No way!”

“No way!”

Samantha Gray and Mila blurted out in unison. Mila’s face had gone pale with panic.

Jordan Wilson frowned. “What’s this about? Is living here with the Wilson family not good enough for you? You want to move in with someone else? Don’t you realize that Willie and Mia—”

He broke off, words hanging.

My smile only widened. They knew as well as I did that there was nothing legitimate about Willie and Mia’s situation. The outside world might not know the truth about Willie’s marital status, but these people certainly did.

Jordan finally drew the line. “Enough. You’ll stay here and stop with this nonsense.”

I looked straight at Willie.

“Willie.”

He shot me a wary look, still frowning. “What are you trying to pull now?”

I forced a smile, though I could feel the blood draining from my face. “I know you want a divorce. I’m ready to respect your wishes.”

Relief flickered across their faces—especially Mila, who couldn’t hide her delight.

Willie’s eyes widened, a flash of panic crossing his face. He didn’t believe me, not for a second.

Mila huffed and pouted, then sidled over to Willie, grabbing his arm and swaying it playfully. “Willie, let me stay too! You’ve got more than enough rooms.”

The three of them looked at her with indulgence and affection.

With that kind of pleading, how could any of them say no?

Willie ruffled her hair and smiled gently. “All right.”

Mila immediately rested her head on his shoulder, beaming with happiness.

“I knew it—Willie’s always the best to me!”

I clenched my fists, but I smiled too.

Mila would never let me be alone under the same roof with Willie Lee. That was certain.

But honestly, that suited me just fine.
