My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 625

“I know. I told them they didn’t have to keep it from you,” Andrew Lane said quietly.

Kevin Lane’s face twisted in anger. “Andrew Lane, do you even understand what you’re saying? What you’re doing? Do you remember what I asked of you? Do you remember that I’m your grandfather?”

Andrew’s voice was steady, though low. “I remember. This was my decision. I didn’t do what you asked.”

Kevin drew in several shaky breaths, trying to keep his temper in check. “You did all this… for Emily Blair, didn’t you?”

Andrew fell silent.

But Kevin already had his answer.

“Andrew Lane, you’re going to be the death of me.”

Andrew’s brow furrowed. “Grandpa, you can be angry with me, but please take care of yourself. When I’m back, punish me however you want, as long as it helps you feel better.”

Kevin’s voice was sharp, brittle. “And what good will that do? You don’t really think you’ve done wrong.”

He clung to a sliver of hope. “If I told you right now to pull Ryan Cox out of this mess, you wouldn’t do it, would you?”

Andrew said nothing.

Kevin let out a long, frustrated sigh. “I knew it. I knew from the start—Emily Blair is nothing but trouble.”

“If I’d known things would turn out like this, I never would have taken her in all those years ago. Would’ve just handed her family some money and sent them as far away as possible!”

His anger overwhelmed him, making his vision swim.

“I’m just old now. Can’t control you anymore. If I were younger—”

Andrew’s reply was soft. “Grandpa, this is my fault.”

Kevin snapped, “Enough. Finish what you need to do and get home. Now.”

“I understand,” Andrew said.

The call ended.

Andrew stood there, head bowed, still holding his phone, motionless for a long moment before finally lowering his hand.

Isabella Austin’s heart was a tangled mess.

She pulled out her phone, comparing the woman’s face to the photo she’d received.

There was no doubt—this was Rose Ward’s grandmother, Angela.

Emily walked over, calm and collected, and gently took the kettle from Angela’s hands.

“Let me help you, ma’am. Why don’t you have a seat?”

Angela’s grip was tight at first, but seeing Emily’s genuine smile, she relaxed and let go. “Oh, thank you, dear.”

Emily smiled back. “No trouble at all.”

She refilled the kettle, but didn’t hand it back. Instead, she kept it in her own hands. “Which room is yours, ma’am? I’ll walk you back.”

Angela chuckled. “That’s too much trouble, really. I can manage.”

Emily stepped aside, still holding the kettle, insisting gently, “It’s no trouble. Just point the way, I’ll take care of it.”

Angela gave in with a smile. “You young people, always so stubborn! It’s just over there—not far at all.”
