My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 667

Emily Blair couldn’t help herself—her curiosity was piqued.

If all of this was true, then the tangled web between Andrew Lane, Isabella Austin, and Benjamin Gomez was even more complicated than she imagined.

Benjamin didn’t bother to conceal the truth. “Yeah.”

Emily gave a wry smile. “You guys are something else.”

Seeing each other almost daily, yet still managing to keep things civil—it was impressive, in its own way.

She didn’t linger to chat further with Benjamin. Instead, she absentmindedly tousled Ashley Gomez’s hair and turned to leave.

Halfway down the hall, Emily fished out her phone, intending to text Alex White and ask if he remembered their agreement. That’s when she realized she didn’t actually have his number. With a resigned sigh, she asked one of the nurses for directions to Alex’s office and decided to wait for him there.

Emily sat for a few minutes, scrolling through her emails. Suddenly, she heard the door open behind her—and Alex’s familiar voice followed, tinged with amusement. “I knew you’d be here.”

She tucked her phone away and glanced over her shoulder. He was still in his white coat, a bruise coloring his cheek. “I thought maybe you’d forgotten.”

Alex gave a noncommittal hum. “My memory’s not that bad.”

He started unbuttoning his coat, and Emily’s gaze involuntarily followed his hands. Only then did she notice how pale his skin was—his knuckles tinged with a soft flush, his fingers long and elegant.

She didn’t stare long, but Alex caught her anyway. He shot her a frosty look. “What are you looking at?”

Snapping out of it, Emily arched an eyebrow. “Oh, sorry. Didn’t mean to.”

Alex’s frown deepened, as if her glance had crossed some line and he could barely tolerate it.

Emily turned away, facing the wall. “Better?”

He clicked his tongue in annoyance, shrugged off his white coat, and slipped into his usual overcoat. “Let’s go.”

Rose Ward’s grandmother was staying at a hospital not far from there; they arrived in no time.

On the drive over, Alex glanced at her in the rearview mirror. “Emily, you’d better be telling the truth.”

She laughed. “You’re just now asking, when we’re already halfway there? Isn’t it a little late for doubts?”

Alex gave a short, skeptical laugh. “Given your track record, I have every right to be suspicious.”

Emily smiled. “We’re not at the hospital yet. If you want to kick me out of the car, there’s still time.”

He just grunted and kept his eyes on the road.

Emily couldn’t help but chuckle.

When they arrived, Angela was awake. Emily introduced Alex as the doctor she’d invited to consult.

Ever since Emily had uncovered Isabella Austin’s actions and told Rose Ward, Rose had spoken highly of her to Angela. So Angela already had a good impression of Emily—and by extension, trusted the doctor she brought.

“Mr. White, thank you for coming to see me,” Angela said warmly.
