My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 698

Some time ago, Matthew Ross had promised her—he wouldn’t see anyone, no matter who it was.

But just a few days ago, out of the blue, he told her he’d met with Emily Blair.

And not only had they met, but Emily Blair had somehow already dug up information on Brandon Ross and Helen Ross. She’d even threatened Matthew, using Brandon and Helen’s academic records as leverage, trying to force him to give Isabella up.

Isabella hadn’t seen that coming.

She’d always believed she was meticulous, covering every possible trail. There was no way anyone could trace Brandon and Helen, who’d changed their names and left the country to study abroad. But Emily Blair had proved her wrong—she’d landed a direct hit.

When Matthew told her what happened, Isabella’s composure faltered for the first time. She was genuinely afraid of what Emily might uncover, and even more afraid that Matthew would buckle under the threat and betray her.

Fortunately, Matthew had asked her to meet at the police station—which meant there was still room to negotiate.

At their last meeting, she’d made Matthew promise over and over that she would protect Brandon and Helen no matter what. After a moment of hesitation, he’d chosen to trust her, rejecting Emily’s proposal and refusing to expose her to the police.

But Isabella didn’t dare relax.

Someone tipped her off: Emily Blair had gone to Astoria—the very town where Brandon and Helen were now living. It didn’t take a genius to figure out why Emily was there; she was clearly investigating them.

The moment Isabella heard, she called Brandon and Helen.

Just as she’d feared, Emily Blair had already shown up at the school, threatening Brandon and Helen with exposure, vowing to report their real identities to the administration.

When Isabella heard the news, it felt as if a snake that had been lurking inside her for years suddenly coiled tighter, squeezing her breath away with every turn.

Despite her anxiety, she did what she always did: she talked Brandon and Helen down, just as she’d done with Matthew, urging them not to believe a word Emily said—not to listen, not to answer, under any circumstances.

Brandon’s voice was quieter now. “Don’t worry, Ms. Austin. We didn’t say anything. Emily Blair’s already left. You don’t need to worry.”

Isabella pressed harder, her tone sharp. “Are you sure you didn’t say anything at all?”

Brandon could feel sweat trickle down his back, but he lied with steady calm. “Yes. We kept quiet. No matter what she asked, we didn’t answer.”

Still suspicious, Isabella pushed on. “What did she ask you?”

“She just asked about my connection to you. I told her I didn’t know you.”

Isabella’s brow relaxed a little. “What else did she ask?”
