My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 703

Isabella bit her lower lip, lost for words, and could only watch helplessly as Benjamin climbed into bed.

At this point, she could only comfort herself: at least Ashley was still here. As long as Ashley was present, Benjamin wouldn’t dare try anything.

Thankfully, after Benjamin lay down, he didn’t make another move.

Still, Isabella spent the night tossing and turning, unable to sleep soundly. She kept worrying Benjamin might try something while she slept, waking up repeatedly through the night.

The call from the police came at ten o’clock the next morning.

When Isabella saw the unfamiliar number flash across her phone, she assumed it was a scam and declined the call without a second thought.

It wasn’t until the number called a third time that she finally answered. “Hello? Who is this?”

She was pouring Ashley a glass of milk as she spoke, with Benjamin sitting right beside her at the table.

The voice on the other end was cool and direct. “Is this Ms. Austin?”

Isabella finished pouring the milk and sat down across from Benjamin. “Yes, this is she. Who’s calling?”

“I’m the informant you hired. I called to warn you: the police have uncovered evidence suggesting you might be involved in Matthew Ross’s case—deliberate misdiagnosis and causing harm to patients. They’ve got enough evidence to act. It won’t be long before the police show up at your door.”

Her spoon clattered loudly against the bowl, her voice rising in shock. “What did you just say?!”

Both Benjamin and Ashley immediately turned to look at her.

Isabella’s gaze darted away for a moment. She grabbed her phone and stood up. “I’m going to take this outside.”

She hurried onto the balcony, glancing back to make sure Benjamin and Ashley hadn’t followed. Only then did she lower her voice. “Explain. Now.”

The voice remained calm and steady, relaying everything he’d managed to find out. But he didn’t know much; just that the police had suddenly gotten their hands on new evidence, questioned Matthew Ross through the night, and by morning, orders had come down to bring Isabella in for questioning.

She couldn’t tell Andrew Lane or his family. She didn’t dare tell her own family, either.

There was only one person with the means to help her: Benjamin Gomez.

But Benjamin always wanted something in return, and their relationship was already a tangled mess. If she went to him for help again, she’d just be feeding herself to the wolves. The risks were enormous.

Panic twisted through her.

There was no time. If the police showed up and traced her to Andrew Lane, she’d be ruined.

Steeling herself, Isabella slipped her phone into her pocket and walked back into the dining room.

Benjamin immediately caught the change in her expression. “What’s wrong?”

Without hesitation, Isabella grabbed his wrist. “Come with me. Now.”
