My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 714

Isabella Austin studied Benjamin Gomez’s face, anxiety flickering in her eyes. Her voice was barely audible. “...I don’t want to get pregnant.”

Benjamin’s expression was unreadable—calm and almost cold. That blank look made Isabella’s heart pound with unease for reasons she couldn’t explain.

She reached out to take the pill box from his hand, desperate to change the subject. “Do you have anything else on tonight?”

Benjamin’s dark gaze lingered on her face. “No.”

Isabella moved closer, looping her arm through his. “Then let’s just relax at home, maybe watch some TV? What do you feel like watching?”

He didn’t budge, his eyes fixed on her with the same intensity.

She shifted, embarrassment creeping in. “What is it? Why are you looking at me like that?”

He reached up and gently tucked a stray lock of hair behind her ear. “Why don’t you want to get pregnant?”

Her face froze for a split second. “Don’t joke about that. Of course I can’t get pregnant…”

“Why not?” His voice was steady, almost too composed.

Isabella’s breath quickened. “I’m married.”

He didn’t even flinch. “So what?” His tone was calm, but his words landed like a thunderclap. “Wouldn’t it be exciting if you really did get pregnant?”

She recoiled, startled, and jerked away from his touch. “Benjamin, don’t—don’t say things like that…”

He withdrew his hand as if nothing had happened, and in the next second, he wrapped his arm around her shoulders, guiding her gently. “Come on, let’s get some rest.”

Inside, Isabella could barely calm her nerves, her hands clutching the fabric of her clothes as Benjamin led her in.

Benjamin had always understood the art of balance—if you sting, you offer something sweet right after.

“You mentioned Emily Blair told Alex White about what happened?” Benjamin asked, his tone casual.

“Yeah, Alex came over just now to ask me about it,” Isabella replied, relieved for the change of topic. “Benjamin, what should I do? If I keep stalling, who knows who else Emily will blab to?”

Benjamin listened, his expression unchanged. “I’ll handle it.”

Isabella frowned. “What do you mean?”

His phone kept buzzing, one notification after another—every single one from Emily Blair.

He tried to ignore it, jaw set, eyes glued to the TV. Finally, he slammed his phone into silent mode, refusing to acknowledge her barrage of messages.

With the world finally muted, Alex thought he’d get some peace.

He was wrong. Emily started calling.

He declined the call.

She rang again.

He declined once more.

She called yet again.

Alex glared at his phone, exasperated. He was two seconds from blocking her entirely when, out of nowhere, the wall clock crashed to the floor with a deafening bang, making his heart leap and his hands tremble.
