My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 746

After yesterday’s awkward spat with Emily Blair, Tristan Davis was determined to smooth things over. He grinned playfully and teased, “Must be nice, Ms. Blair—just lying in bed and people are already lining up to bring you treats.”

Emily paused, mid-bite, her fork frozen in the air as she glanced at Tristan, unsure whether he was joking or trying to needle her. Tristan’s cheerful expression suggested he was kidding, but she couldn’t shake the feeling there was an edge to his words—especially given their recent argument.

She hesitated a moment, then said, “If you want some, you can have it.”

Tristan laughed. “Me? Take your care packages? These are meant to help you recover, not me.”

Emma George, ever the straightforward one, cut in, “Andrew Lane brought those over, you know. Emily didn’t even want them. If you’d like, Tristan, take them home. We were planning to share them with the neighbors anyway.”

She said it so nonchalantly that Tristan’s smile faltered for a split second. “Andrew Lane brought them by?” he asked, his tone a shade darker.

Emily swallowed her food and nodded. “Yeah, he dropped them off and left soon after.”

Tristan’s chicken drumstick suddenly lost all appeal. He glared at Emily, his mood shifting.

Emily sighed, setting her fork down. “I didn’t plan to keep his gifts. If you want them, take them. If not, I’ll give them to someone else.”

For a moment, Tristan’s expression softened.

She tried again, more firmly, “You can have all of it if you want.”

That seemed to placate him, at least a little. “Why would I want his stuff? I don’t need it.”

He turned to Emma with the air of a dutiful son-in-law. “Why don’t you take them when you leave? Best to give them away before they expire.”

Emma blinked, a little bemused—surely those treats wouldn’t go bad anytime soon? But she trusted Tristan. “Alright, I’ll take them for the neighbors.”

“I’ll take your word for it—for now,” Tristan grumbled. “If I hadn’t shown up this morning… Looks like I’ll have to start coming by earlier, make sure Andrew Lane doesn’t get another chance to cozy up to you.”

Emily replied, “This is a hospital, not your living room. How exactly are you going to keep people out?”

He frowned. “Are you turning me down?”

She gave him a look. “No. When have I ever turned you down?”

Tristan met her gaze, a hint of wounded pride flickering in his eyes. “Just… don’t let me catch you hugging Andrew Lane again.”

Emily arched an eyebrow. “For the last time, that was an accident. Honestly, why are you still hung up on it?”
