My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 787

Emily offered a gentle smile. “Alright.”

Rose Ward still had work to take care of at the café, so she didn’t linger long before heading out.

Emily turned to Tristan Davis. “What’s going on with Alex White?”

Tristan relayed every detail. Alex had been in a car accident on the way to the police station. The circumstances were eerily similar to before, though this time it wasn’t a truck—it was a sedan. The driver, drunk and running a red light, slammed into the cab Alex was riding in.

Alex had been in the back seat, so he didn’t take the brunt of the impact. Even after the crash, he managed to drag himself to the front and pull the cab driver out. The driver, however, was in much worse shape—he was rushed to the hospital and still hadn’t regained consciousness.

According to the police, the sedan driver was a failed entrepreneur, drowning in debt, drinking heavily, and barely functional. On the day of the crash, his mind was a fog, and he ran the red light without even realizing it, plowing straight into Alex’s cab.

When Tristan finished, Emily gave a soft, sardonic laugh. “Same old trick. They didn’t even bother to change it up.”

There was no humor on Tristan’s face. His lips pressed into a thin line, his eyes dropped to Emily’s hand, lost in thought.

She didn’t notice his gaze. “What about the two men who grabbed me? Did they catch them?”

Tristan replied, “That’s what I was going to tell you. The police just left Alex’s room, they’ll be here in a moment.”

Right on cue, there was a knock at the door.

Tristan stood to answer it. Two officers entered.

They were young men, both with serious expressions. They gave Emily a curt nod. “We’ve tracked down the kidnappers’ whereabouts. Patrol cars are on their way to arrest them. But we still need your account of what happened. Ms. Blair, do you feel up to it?”

“I do. Please, take a seat,” Emily said.

Tristan’s voice was quiet. “Car accident. Massive blood loss. She was pronounced dead on the operating table.”

He hesitated, then added, “She was in the crash trying to save Benjamin Gomez’s daughter. Benjamin was the one who brought her to the hospital. Strangely, every surveillance camera along that stretch of road was out, supposedly under repair. No footage, and no other cars nearby—no witnesses except the people involved. All we have are their statements.”

Emily’s voice was certain. “Something’s off.”

She’d seen the kind of tricks Benjamin Gomez could pull. Him teaming up with Isabella was never a good sign.

Benjamin had influence everywhere, and he was Isabella’s ex. Emily had every reason to believe he was behind these accidents—and the kidnapping.

Tristan gave a low, somber sound. “The Austin and Lane families are in chaos. Benjamin promised to compensate the Austins, but they threw him out.”
