My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 845

“Oh…” Emily murmured.

Tristan just stared at her in silence.

She couldn’t stand that look on his face. Pressing her lips together, she nudged, “You’d better answer your phone. It’s about to cut off.”

Jaw tight, Tristan shot her a look but let it slide for now, picking up his phone and answering the call.

The moment the line connected, Steven’s voice barked down the line, “What are you doing? Why’d you take so long to pick up?”

Tristan pinched the bridge of his nose, exhaling, “What do you want, Steven?”

That only seemed to rile Steven further. “Watch your tone. Is that how you speak to your family?”

Tristan didn’t bother replying. Instead, he gestured to Emily that he’d step out, then slipped onto the balcony and closed the door behind him.

Steven took a deep breath, voice low and steely. “I don’t care what else you’re doing right now. Come home this instant. Your parents and I are waiting.”

“Can’t you just tell me over the phone?” Tristan replied.

“What’s stopping you from coming back?” Steven’s voice was cold and firm. “I don’t care what plans you have tonight—drop them. You’re coming home.”

A careless smirk played at Tristan’s lips. “As long as you’re not setting me up with someone, I’m sure it’ll be fine.”

Steven just snorted, ignoring his question and hanging up.

Tristan returned to the living room, waving a hand at Emily. “I’ve got to head home for a bit.”

She shrugged. “Go ahead.”

Her eyes flicked toward him. “Don’t tell me they’re forcing you into another blind date?”

Tristan stuffed one hand in his pocket, deliberately keeping her in suspense. “Who knows? Anything’s possible.”

The Davis Estate sat tucked away in a quiet, upscale neighborhood on the edge of the city—a short drive from Emily’s place.

When Tristan walked in, he immediately spotted Steven, along with Mr. and Mrs. Davis, all three perched on the living room sofa, faces grim and the air thick with tension.

Steven fixed him with a stern look. “Don’t just stand there. Come here.”

Tristan rubbed his nose, unable to resist a little joke even now. “What’s with all the seriousness? Feels like I’m walking into an ambush.”

Steven huffed. “Don’t spout nonsense. We have something important to discuss. Sit.”

Tristan dropped onto a single armchair, grabbed a grape from the coffee table, and popped it in his mouth, stretching out his legs like he owned the place. He shot Steven a look. “As long as this isn’t about setting me up with someone, I’m all ears.”

Steven’s face was stone, the lines on his skin seeming to deepen with annoyance.

“Tristan, you should know by now that I’m getting older, and your parents’ work keeps them abroad most of the time.”
