My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 847

Mrs. Davis couldn’t help but wonder what kind of extraordinary woman had managed to capture Tristan Davis’s attention.

“So, who is she? Will you tell me about her?”

Before Tristan could answer, Steven Davis let out a derisive snort. “It’s Emily Blair, isn’t it? The girl you brought by the other day?”

Mrs. Davis turned to Steven, eyes bright with curiosity. She repeated the name to herself, tasting it. “Emily Blair… Dad, you know the girl Tristan likes?”

Tristan raised an eyebrow and looked at Steven. “Yeah, who else could it be?”

Steven scoffed and shot him a look. “So you’re still chasing after her? Didn’t you say you two were already dating? If someone hadn’t told me the truth, I’d still be in the dark about your little act.”

Tristan’s expression faltered. He rubbed his nose, avoiding eye contact.

“Dating? Who are you trying to fool?” Steven sneered. “It’s pretty obvious you’re the eager one here. She doesn’t even like you, does she?”

“Who says she doesn’t like me?” Tristan muttered under his breath.

Steven’s cloudy eyes narrowed. “If she likes you so much, why aren’t you together? Why did you need to pretend to be a couple? Pathetic.”

“The timing just wasn’t right, okay?” Tristan pressed a hand to his forehead. “Grandpa, who told you all this? I thought I was keeping it quiet.”

Steven looked away, clearly uninterested in continuing the conversation. “Who cares? The point is, I know now.”

Their exchange only fueled Mr. and Mrs. Davis’s curiosity. Mr. Davis leaned in. “Dad, what’s going on? Tristan, did you really bring her to meet him?”

Steven shot Tristan another look, clearly irritated. “Let him explain. I’m too embarrassed to talk about it.”

So Tristan had no choice but to come clean. He explained everything honestly, and by the end, he even added, with a straight face, “Sure, we were pretending at first, but I believe we’ll become a real couple soon enough.”

Steven answered with nothing more than a cold grunt.

Mr. and Mrs. Davis exchanged a look, half amused, half exasperated. “Tristan, is this really how you chase after a girl? Isn’t it a bit obvious?”

Bending down, Tristan plucked a grape from the table and popped it into his mouth. “I’m out.”

Mrs. Davis could only sigh. “Boys grow up and can’t be kept home.”

Tristan drove off, and halfway home, his phone rang. It was Mrs. Davis.

“Mom, did you need something?”

Mrs. Davis paused, then asked softly, “Are you still driving?”

“Yeah, I am.”

“Then I’ll call you when you get home. It’s dangerous to talk while driving.”

“No worries,” Tristan said, pulling his car to the side of the road. “I’ll park and you can tell me now.”
