My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 858

Tristan Davis turned to look at her, his striking features appearing even more handsome and enigmatic under the soft, white glow of the living room lights.

“Yeah, I’m here to remind you to pack your bags. Don’t forget about tomorrow’s trip.”

Emily Blair grabbed the handle of her suitcase, which was still empty. “Alright, I’ll get started now.”

Tristan stood up and rubbed the back of his neck. “Since you’re back, I’ll head out.”

Emma George came bustling out of the kitchen, apron still on. “Don’t rush off! I made a late-night snack.”

Tristan walked over, taking the bowl and fork from her hands. “Thank you, Mrs. George, but I haven’t slept much these past few nights and I’m exhausted. I’d better get home and rest.”

He glanced over at Emily. “Let Emily have some instead.”

Emma shook her head. “Emily? She just got back from dinner, there’s no way she’s hungry.”

Emily paused in her tracks, suitcase wheels rolling to a stop.

Tristan didn’t notice anything unusual, assuming Emily had just been out at a dinner party. He grinned. “Really? Well then, Mrs. George, you should enjoy it. I’m off to bed.”

Emily let out a quiet sigh of relief.

Emma smiled. “Never mind, I’ll just save it for breakfast. No way I’ll finish it by myself.”

Tristan arched an eyebrow. “Sounds good. I’ll make sure to come by early tomorrow morning.”

“Goodnight, Mrs. George,” he called, and then to Emily’s back, “Emily, goodnight.”

Emily waved dismissively over her shoulder. “Night.”

By one o’clock the next afternoon, Emily and Tristan touched down in Riven right on schedule.

Emily’s hands were empty—Tristan was the one pushing their suitcases along.

She checked her watch. “Has your friend’s driver arrived?”

Tristan scanned the passing cars and spotted a familiar license plate, a small smile curving at the corner of his mouth. “He’s here.”

He walked over and gave Tanner a good-natured slap on the shoulder. “What’s with you? You haven’t even looked at me since you got here.”

Tanner waggled his eyebrows and slung an arm around Tristan. “What, getting jealous already because I’m talking to Emily?”

Emily blinked.

Jealous?

Tristan immediately elbowed Tanner in the ribs. “Cut it out.”

Without ceremony, he shoved both suitcases into Tanner’s hands. “Here. Make yourself useful.”

Tanner was doubled over laughing as he hauled the luggage to the car’s trunk.

With Tanner momentarily out of earshot, Emily sidled up to Tristan, eyes narrowed in playful suspicion.

“So, what exactly have you told Tanner about me?”
