My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 968

The thought that Andrew Lane might have said those things for such a selfish reason left Emily Blair seething. She wanted nothing more than to storm back and slap him across the face.

This time, she swore she wouldn’t make the same mistake—she wouldn’t let Andrew Lane’s half-hearted attempts at affection sway her, wouldn’t humiliate herself by chasing after someone who barely cared.

The shuttle bus pulled up outside the villa.

Elizabeth Wilson was inside, resting. The lights glowed warmly through the windows.

As Emily stepped through the door, a startled commotion erupted from the living room.

She stood there in the entryway, exasperated, watching as Elizabeth wielded a throw pillow like a weapon. “It’s just me.”

Elizabeth scanned the floor nervously, only relaxing when she saw there were no stray cats or fluffy creatures trying to sneak in.

“For a second, I thought the neighborhood cats had learned to open doors.”

She tossed the pillow back onto the couch. “Didn’t you say you were going to stay out for a while? Why are you back so soon?”

Emily sank onto the sofa. “Didn’t feel like being out anymore.”

Elizabeth studied her face, then leaned in, sniffing the air around her. “What happened? You look awful, and you reek of alcohol.”

Emily glanced down at her shirt and, sure enough, spotted a damp stain where someone’s drink had spilled.

The alcohol she’d had was weak—she shouldn’t have smelled so strongly. It must have been when she’d gotten jostled with Larkin Porter, the drink splashing onto her clothes and amplifying the scent.
