Emily held her toothbrush, her mouth full of foam, and glanced at the power bank in Elizabeth's hand through the mirror.

She looked away, spat out the foam, and rinsed her mouth. "A staff member brought it over."

"They must have remembered me asking last night," Elizabeth surmised. "They took note that we needed one. The service here is really thoughtful."

Emily wiped her face with a damp towel, her own dark eyes betraying no emotion in the mirror's reflection.

"Yes, very thoughtful," she agreed.

The night had passed, and the resort had repaired the electrical facilities. With the power back on, the power bank was no longer needed.

Emily went to the front desk to return it.

The receptionist took it, glancing at Emily several times, clearly remembering her beautiful face.

"I don't recall you getting a power bank from us. Did you borrow it from someone else?"

Emily paused for a second. "I suppose so."

The receptionist was momentarily confused by her vague answer but didn't press the issue. The power bank had the resort's logo on it, so she simply logged its return and let Emily go.

Elizabeth was waiting for her in the restaurant, so Emily headed there directly instead of going back to the room.

She stood by the elevator, waiting for it to arrive, replying to work messages on her phone.

The elevator doors slid open. Emily saw a few people inside out of the corner of her eye but didn't look up as she walked in and turned to face the doors.

A glance at the panel showed that the button for the restaurant floor was already lit, so she left it alone.

There was no signal in the elevator, so Emily put her phone away.

The elevator walls were smooth and polished, not quite mirrors, but reflective enough to make out shapes.

When she looked up, she saw Andrew Lane standing next to her.

Emily's gaze faltered for a second. "Good morning," she said.

Andrew looked down at her, his voice deep. "Good morning."
