After a few moments, Emily slowly climbed out of bed and sat on the edge, slipping her feet into her slippers.
The moment she was out from under the covers, a chill ran through her. She opened her packed suitcase and pulled out a sweatshirt, draping it over her shoulders.
Grabbing her phone and room key, she left the room.
Standing in the hallway, Emily felt disoriented for a second and patted her forehead.
She didn't know where the clinic was.
After a moment of sluggish thought, she decided to ask at the front desk.
Emily had no idea how high her fever was, but she was so dizzy that she had to brace herself against the wall to walk. Every few steps, she had to stop and catch her breath, feeling utterly exhausted and wanting nothing more than to collapse on the floor and sleep.
She leaned against the wall, waiting for the elevator. When it arrived, she steadied herself and stepped inside.
Her pale face must have startled the other person in the elevator.
"Ms. Blair, do you need any help?"
Not wanting to bother a stranger, Emily shook her head. "No, I'm fine."
Then, a thought struck her. "Do you know where the clinic is?"
"I don't, I'm sorry," the stranger replied. "Do you want me to help you find it?"
Emily shook her head again. "No, it's okay. Thank you, though."
She waited in the elevator for what felt like an eternity. When it finally stopped and the doors opened, she was about to step out when she realized this wasn't the lobby floor.
It dawned on her that she had forgotten to press the button when she got in.
With a sigh, Emily stepped back into the elevator and pressed the button for the lobby.
At the front desk, she got directions to the clinic. Declining the receptionist's offer to escort her, she leaned against the wall by the elevators again.
