Candice dragged Rebekah to the long table. When she finally let go, several red marks were already forming on Rebekah's arm.
"Rebekah, I saw the livestream yesterday," said a pink-haired woman sitting across from her. She was wearing a sequined minidress, and her baby face was smooth and flawless, though her features seemed slightly off—probably from cosmetic surgery. "I can't believe Yvonne's family is still harassing you after all these years."
Rebekah searched her memory but couldn't place the woman.
The pink-haired woman saw her confusion and let out a derisive snort. "You don't know me?"
Rebekah shook her head.
The smirk on the woman's lips widened as she tossed her long hair back. "I guess that makes sense. I'm a total knockout now, after all. And you've been playing housewife for so many years, never bothering to come to a single reunion. It's only natural you wouldn't remember us."
She addressed the rest of the group. "Everyone, Miss Fletcher here has a short memory for us common folk. Why don't we all reintroduce ourselves?" She turned back to Rebekah, starting first. "My name is Chloe Scott. You'd do well to remember it."
The name clicked. Chloe was the youngest daughter of the Scotts, a family that had struck it rich in real estate. She'd transferred to their school midway through the year and, within days, had established herself as the resident queen bee, throwing her family's money around. She had been one of the ringleaders in bullying Yvonne, which had led to more than a few clashes between her and Rebekah.
Next was Victor, who introduced himself with a grin. "Victor. High school class president and the organizer of these fine get-togethers."
One by one, the others introduced themselves. When they were finished, Chloe fixed her gaze on Rebekah. "So, do you remember us all now, Miss Fletcher?" she asked, a faint smile on her lips but undisguised contempt in her eyes.
Rebekah's brow furrowed.
Chloe was left speechless. Rebekah held her gaze, refusing to back down.
Candice grabbed Rebekah's arm. "Sister, it was just a joke. Don't take it so seriously." Then she turned to Chloe, feigning an explanation. "Chloe, my sister and Benjamin just signed their divorce papers yesterday. She's in a bad mood, so please try to cut her some slack, okay?"
Candice's words dropped into a momentary silence, which was immediately followed by a wave of gasps and murmurs.
"Signed the divorce papers?"
Chloe stared at Rebekah, her voice dripping with scorn. "And here I thought that after all those years playing housewife, you'd have your husband wrapped around your little finger. Turns out you got dumped after all."
