Rebekah's heart pounded as Victor's hand closed around her wrist. Her face went pale.
Seeing Victor make his move, the crowd erupted in cheers.
"It's a game," Victor said, his tone clipped. "It doesn't bother me, so why does it bother you so much? Or am I not good enough for you?"
"Are you insane?" Rebekah struggled, trying to pull back. It was clear now that this reunion was a setup, a trap designed just for her. And Victor was just as twisted as the rest of them.
Candice saw her chance and gave Rebekah a sharp push from behind.
Rebekah stumbled forward, falling right into Victor's arms. He wrapped his arms around her as the cheers from the crowd grew even louder.
"Let go of me!" she cried, thrashing in his grip.
But Victor held her tight, lowering his head to kiss her. Rebekah twisted her face away and, with a surge of adrenaline, slapped him hard across the cheek.
The slap, combined with the crowd's taunts, finally ignited Victor's temper. He seized both of her hands, pinning them as he forced her closer.
"Get off me!" she screamed.
*CRASH!*
A loud, jarring sound of something heavy hitting the floor echoed nearby. Victor froze. As he turned his head, a wine bottle flew through the air and smashed against his forehead. He cried out in pain, clutching his head as blood began to stream down his face.
Rebekah saw it happen, but she didn't have time to process it. While everyone was stunned into silence, she scrambled to her feet and pushed her way out of the crowd.
Rebekah saw the thunderous look on Jensen's face and stepped forward to intervene, but he grabbed her hand and pulled her behind him.
"Your family is about to go bankrupt tomorrow," Jensen said to Chloe, his voice flat and cold. "What money do you have to keep me with?"
Chloe shrieked, "Are you trying to jinx me? Do you want to die?" She started to lunge forward, but Candice held her back.
Candice stepped up to Jensen, her eyes full of scorn, all pretense gone. "You're nothing but a driver for the Hawthornes. What gives you the right to be so arrogant? Do you have any idea who these people are? Every single one of them could crush you."
She gestured to a nearby server. "Get security and throw this man out. If you don't, I'll file a complaint."
They had booked the entire floor; an outsider showing up was the venue's responsibility. The server approached, but when he saw Jensen's face, he froze.
