Chapter 54
Walking out of Quinn Fashion, Rebekah still felt as if she were in a daze.
The interview had felt more like a high-stakes business negotiation, with Jensen leading the charge. The final agreement was that Quentin would provide her with simple freelance projects. She could work remotely, with no deadlines, and was welcome to join the tearn full-time once her hand had healed. At that point, Quentin promised to assign a top designer to
mentor her.
At the base of the building, Rebekah stopped and turned to Jensen, her expression earnest. “Jensen, thank you.” She knew that her success today was entirely due to his connections.
Her sincerity seemed to catch him off guard. A moment later, a slow smile spread across his face. He leaned in, his handsome, almost dangerously beautiful face close to hers. A playful glint danced in his expressive eyes. “My dear, I told you. Just keep those ‘thank yous’ in your
heart. I’ll come to collect them later.”
After Rebekah had left, Quentin came out and stood beside Jensen.
“I can tell Miss Fletcher has real talent. Her hand injury isn’t a huge deal; I could just give her lighter tasks… but you couldn’t even wait for that, could you? Already playing the protective boyfriend?”
The moment Rebekah was out of sight, the smile vanished from Jensen’s face, replaced by a cold, hard mask. He shot Quentin a dismissive glance. The look was so chilling it sent a shiver down Quentin’s spine. All he did was state the obvious. Why was the man so angry?
“You think the injury on her wrist is a ‘small thing’?” Jensen asked, his voice low and dangerous. Quentin sighed. “From her portfolio, I can see she has a strong foundation. A little injury like that isn’t a big deal.”
“Everything about her is a big deal to me.’
Quentin stared at him, shocked.
Jensen looked away, his voice softening with an emotion Quentin had never heard from him before. “She’s been through enough. I won’t let her suffer anymore.”
…
Instead of going straight back to the estate, Rebekah stopped at a supermarket to buy ingredients for Old Mr. Forrester’s soup. As she approached the Forrester mansion, she saw Candice and Shawn playing on the lawn, laughing as they zoomed around in a small electric
car.
The smile on her face faded. She watched Shawn for a few seconds before turning and heading toward the main house. Just as she reached the entrance, Benjamin came out. He was holding a cute insulated tumbler-not Shawn’s. It must be for Candice.
