"Rebekah! How could you be so vicious? Candice is your sister! Do you have any idea what you've just done? You could have ruined her life!"
He didn't have time to deal with Rebekah. He swept Candice into his arms and rushed toward the exit, shouting over his shoulder, "We'll settle this later!"
A group of reporters, who had been invited to the other event, saw the commotion and swarmed forward, their cameras flashing. They surrounded Rebekah.
"I know you! You're Rebekah Fletcher, the one who was charged with that hit-and-run four months ago. You used to be a famous dancer, but you were injured in prison. Are you trying to hurt your sister now out of jealousy?"
"Miss Fletcher, we heard the family of the victim you killed is no longer in The Capital. Did you force them out?"
"Miss Fletcher, how can you act so brazenly after taking a life? Is it because you have the Fletcher and Forrester families to protect you?"
The reporters who gained access to these exclusive events were relentless. Rebekah backed away, but they pressed in, a pack of wolves closing in on their prey, trapping her in a circle of flashing lights and shouted questions.
"I wasn't the one who killed him," she said, her voice trembling.
"The police have already closed the case. Are you suggesting they made a mistake, Miss Fletcher?"
Her denial was cut short. The designers who hadn't left yet stood at a distance, watching the spectacle unfold. They had just been admiring this newcomer's talent, but now they saw her for what she really was: a jealous, malicious woman who would attack her own sister in public. Not only that, but she was a convicted criminal who had used her family's power to silence her victim's family.
