Meanwhile, Amelia was curled up in the bed, the steady beeping of the monitor echoing through the quiet room.
Pain throbbed deep in her chest, not physical pain, but the kind that tore at the soul.
The door creaked open, and Alpha Seraphina walked in.
“Amelia,” she called softly.
**
Amelia sat up immediately, her eyes narrowing at the woman who now stood smiling at her.
“Come, I’ll show you to your room,” Seraphina said gently, holding the door open.
Without a word, Amelia followed. The moment they stepped out into the hallway, she froze, her eyes widening in surprise.
The corridor looked nothing like a hospital. It was beautiful, grand, elegant, like something out of a castle.
“Is this your house?” Amelia asked, glancing around in awe.
“One of my houses,” Seraphina replied with a soft smile. “Which are now yours too.
Amelia blinked, caught off guard by the warmth in her voice. She smiled back, unsure of how to respond.
They descended the stairs, and Amelia couldn’t help but stare. The house was massive, every inch beautifully decorated. Lined up at the bottom were several maids, heads bowed. Kael stood off to the side.
“I asked Kael to gather everyone,” Seraphina said as they reached the last step. “I want you all to meet my daughter… Cassia Wrenmoor. She’s the future Alpha of Velaris Pack. You will serve her with the same loyalty and respect you show me.”
Amelia turned to her sharply. Future Alpha? Her breath caught.
The maids bowed in unison. “Future Alpha.”
Amelia forced a small smile.
Seraphina dismissed them. “Kael will introduce you to the guards later today,” she said.
Kael nodded silently. Amelia glanced at him curiously, he rarely spoke.
“Come, I’ll show you your room,” Seraphina said, leading her away.
When they stepped into the room, Amelia’s eyes widened again. It was stunning, a queen–size bed in the center, a large wardrobe, a vanity in the corner.
“This room is too big for me,” she whispered as she moved toward the wardrobe, brushing her fingers across the polished wood. “Isn’t it?”
“No,” Seraphina said, her voice soft but firm. “Nothing is too big or expensive for you, Cassia. Whatever you need, you’ll have it.”
Amelia smiled at the kindness. She opened the wardrobe and paused when she saw clothes already hanging inside.
“Did you buy these for me?” she asked, surprised. The clothes were her size.
Seraphina didn’t answer right away. Her expression shifted, unreadable, distant.
“No,” she finally said, her voice lower. “I forgot to tell the maids to remove them. They’re not yours. We’ll get you new ones.”
Amelia frowned, “Whose are they?”
Seraphina hesitated, then turned her head. “My daughter’s
Amelia’s eyes lit up. “Really? You have a daughter? I’d love to meet her-”
“You can’t.”
The sudden silence that followed felt heavy. The smile slipped off Amelia’s face.
“Her name was Cassia. She died in a fire. I tried to save her, but I was too late…” Seraphina’s voice trembled, “She was beautiful, like you, Same hair. Same eyes. So kind… so innocent”
Tears slipped from Seraphina’s eyes, but she quickly wiped them away.
“I’m not trying to replace your daughter. But I want you to know…. you’re not alone anymore. You have me now, mom.”
“No,” Seraphina cut in, grabbing her hand. “No, it’s fine. I… I like it. I’m just happy. I had almost forgotten what it felt like to be called Mom. Thank you.”
“Mom?” Amelia called.
Seraphina paused, turning slightly.
“I like the name… Cassia.”
A smile bloomed across Seraphina’s face before she quietly stepped out.
Amelia turned to the wardrobe again, then sat on the bed, her hand instinctively resting on her stomach.
She wondered what the gender of her baby would’ve been.
A sigh escaped her lips.
There was something about Seraphina, something strange she couldn’t quite place.
And also she felt a strange feelings towards her, she felt safe with her. Connected. In a way she couldn’t explain.
This was her life now.
The former daughter of a former Beta… now the daughter of an Alpha.
A former Luna… now a future Alpha.
Amelia Lopez had died the night those men came for her..
Now, she was someone else entirely.
