They wrapped her head in a thick bandage. Her wrists are wrapped, too. I try to touch her, but my hands are trembling.

The door opens, and Doctor White walks in. She smiles slightly at me. For a moment, we are both silent until she speaks,

“She suffered multiple injuries and wasn’t attended to by a doctor,” she starts. My jaw clenches. My lycan is growling. Nico wants to come out and do something, but he can’t. We don’t know her pack or if she belongs to one.

Right now, the Luna is in a coma,” I stare at the doctor sharply. Coma?

“But she will wake soon. When she does, she will need help–psychological help, too, to help her deal with the trauma she’s been through. You will need to understand her hesitance to you, especially mating with you,” she explains.

“I know she has suffered a lot, and I intend to help her heal. I don’t care about anything else, especially mating or enforcing the bond on her. I want her to be better, emotionally and physically,” I tell her. She nods and exits the room.

I retreat to the corner of the room, my gaze stuck on my mate. I don’t even know her name.

‘I bet her name is as beautiful as she is,‘ Nico says. His mood is a bit lighter now.

‘Nicholas,‘ I hear my mother’s warm voice through the mind–link.

‘Hmm,‘ I groan, standing from the couch. I slept on the sofa across my mate’s bed; I couldn’t leave her.

‘Did you spend a night at the hospital?‘ Mom asks.

‘Yes,‘

My gaze goes to my mate; however, I still don’t dare to approach or touch her.

I see a large, bright ring form in the middle of the room. Mom uses the teleportation portal, which is one of her royal abilities. She steps out of the portal, looks at my mate, and then at me,

“Oh, my baby. You look terrible,” she murmurs. Without warning, I wrap my arms around her. She tenses but relaxes. I haven’t initiated such contact with her in a while. Her embrace is so comforting and warm. I pull away, and she cradles my face in her soft hands.

“Let’s have coffee at Scarlett’s cafe, shall we?” she says. I glance at my mate again, still unmoving. I nod and follow my mother through the portal.

We appear in front of the cafe, which my uncle Enrique’s wife, Scarlett, owns.

“I’m not ready to face anyone right now,” I mutter as my mom links her arm to mine and drags me

inside.

Chapter 1

“Don’t worry, I haven’t told them about your mate yet,” she says.

The customers in the cafe all bow to us or compliment my mother. She is the people’s favorite queen. I don’t know how she does it, but she’s charming toward everyone. She even remembers names and small conversations she had with every person.

“Nicholas, it’s lovely to see you here,” Scarlett saunters over to me. Besides her is my cousin Victoria, a curly redhead full of unwanted cheer. The duo are the most energetic and bubbly people I know.

“Oh, sweetheart, I heard the good news!” Scarlett exclaims. I glance at my mother, not pleased with her. She had lied about not telling her that I had found my mate.

They are family, Nick. I told them you found your mate, not the condition we found her in,‘ she shrugs.

Well, they better not hug me,‘ I murmur.

Before I can prepare myself, the mother–daughter duo pulls me into an unwanted hug. I frown. Mom stifles a laugh, and I glare at her, but she doesn’t flinch.

“My dearest cousin has a mate and Luna! When are we meeting her?” Victoria grins.

“You’re not meeting her,” I snarl, sitting across from my mother. My cousin sits next to me, her face uncomfortably close to mine. I pull away slowly.

“Why can’t we meet her? Is she ugly?” she asks. I scoff. Ugly? My mate is the most stunning woman. Even in that condition, she is lovely and will leave anyone awestruck. Victoria turns towards my mother, excited.

“Aunty Anaiah, do you have a photo of her?”
