Apphia, do you belong to a pack? Did someone close to you hurt you?” Her voice is stern, and her eyes are hard. I take a step back from her involuntarily and shake my head no. Why is she mad? She notices and exhales, plastering a smile on her face.
“I’m sorry, Apphia. For a moment, I thought you remembered and didn’t want to say. I hate bullies,”
“It’s okay,” my voice is low. Lily takes a step closer to me and cups my chin.
“You’re a gorgeous, enchanting girl with otherworldly beauty, Apphia. So what if you have a scar and you are different from everyone? It makes you special and stand out, which is something everyone wants now. It’s a trend,” she smiles and pulls the chair. I return her smile slightly and sit in the chair, facing the mirror. However, my gaze is on my lap; I am not ready to look yet. Lily works on my hair expertly, blow–drying it and adding products to it. She hums as she does.
After five minutes, she’s done. “Tada, it’s all done. “I lift my head slowly and look into the mirror. Sweet goddess, it looks so good and is styled in a messy bun.
“You did this in five minutes?” I ask.
“Yep,” she says, proud of her work. But this style doesn’t cover my scar at all. But for some reason, it doesn’t bother me now.
“You have very thick and glossy hair, Apphia. You are so blessed,” she bends to hug my shoulder, squeezing it as she smiles in the mirror.
“Thank you, Lily,”
“You’re welcome, sweetie.”
She picked up two dresses from the rack and showed them to me. I stare at her, a bit puzzled.
“Which one do you want to wear?” she asks.
She is waiting for my answer, but I’m clueless and want to choose the right one to satisfy her.
“I will wear any dress you pick,”
“Don’t be like that. Just pick one. It would help if you got used to making decisions now,” Lily says, inspecting the dresses. I squint my eyes, making decisions now. What does she mean by that?
“Don’t overthink. Just choose one,”
I picked the beige knitted dress. It has long sleeves and looks warm and appropriate for the cold weather.
“Good choice,”
“I’ll let you change. Lingerie is behind the rack,” she says as she exits the closet. I flush red. The panties and matching bras are hung perfectly on the rack, like the clothes and pajamas. They are all exquisite and designer.
I pick a black set, and they fit perfectly. I wear a beige dress and pumps, and exit the closet. I meet Lily in
