Apphia

I wake up slowly, feeling refreshed and rested. I feel sunshine on my skin, too. I groan in delight. It feels amazing.

I open my eyes, realizing I’m not in the bed at the hospital. I panic and sit up, analyzing the room. But yesterday’s events hit me hard. I exhale.

I stretch and get up, approaching the glass spiral table that catches my eye near the window. There is a white lotus and a note.

A smile stretches on my face, knowing exactly who it’s from. The note reads.

“Good morning. I hope you had a fantastic night in your new room.

Take a deep breath, smile, and start the day with positive energy.

Have a lovely day ahead.

Nicholas.

I pick up the lotus, holding it to my nose. It smelled fresh and fabulous, but there was something else: an intoxicating scent.

I go to the bathroom, brush my teeth, and then shower. When I finish, I get dressed in jeans and a black top. I grab a cardigan and put on black Vans.

I leave the bedroom and wander for a moment before meeting Emily. She flashes me a bright smile.

“Good morning, Princess Emily,” I say cheerily.

“Good morning, Apphia. Are you ready for breakfast?” I nod, and we head to the dining room. It is different from the room we used last night for dinner. This one is smaller and cozier. Because of its glass walls, it gives a nice view of the castle’s garden. In the middle of the room is a decent–sized table. Drake is already sitting in one of the chairs. He gets to his feet and bows, greeting me cheerfully.

“Good morning, Miss Apphia,”

“Apphia, please. Good morning, Gamma Drake,” I say.

Just Drake,” he grins. I nod and take my seat. I secretly glance at the door, wishing Nicholas could come in. The servers place food on the table, and we dig in. However, I don’t have much appetite, but I try to eat. I’m still underweight for my age.

After breakfast, Emily and Drake decided to give me a tour of the grounds. We are in the foyer, waiting for the princess to grab her phone from her bedroom, when I hear two deep voices talking. One stands out and makes me shiver. I approach the window and peek through it. My breath gets caught in my throat when I see Nicholas. This man is derailing with his beauty.

He is wearing a black tie suit. His hair is tousled, as always, giving him a godlike look.

He is about to get in the car when he suddenly stops and turns his head towards me. I don’t have time to duck, and his intense gaze is on me. My breath hitches, but I hold his gaze.

I reluctantly raise a hand and wave at him. He gives me a faint smile that takes my breath away. I slowly move away, cheeks pink. I smile, but it soon fades when I see the gamma smiling at me with an amused look.

He opens his mouth to speak, maybe tease about the idiotle grin on my face, but I speak,

“You didn’t see anything,”

He chuckles, “Someone has a crush on our alpha.”

I can’t deny it at this point. I’m crushing hard on that man. But who wouldn’t?

I only hide my face away. Luckily, Emiliana is back and saves me from Drake’s teasing gaze.

“Got my phone, shall we?”

The scenery of the castle grounds amazes me. It’s all so magical! It includes a lake, a tennis court, and many other amenities. On our tour, we meet some lycans. They are magnificent, beautiful, and tall- clearly superior to all other creatures.

Emiliana leads us to a lovely maze filled with butterflies. We sit on a bench, resting. I’m so relieved because my legs were tired.

I exhale loudly, stretching my legs in front of me, “I’m tired,”

“I notice you don’t have good stamina,” Drake frowns. It is true. He and Emily don’t even look tired despite walking for two hours. But it’s not my fault. My father and beta didn’t let me train with the other wolves in the pack. I feel a stab in my chest when I remember the Ivory Moon pack.

If you want to improve your stamina, Drake can help you,” Emily says. Drake nods.

Really?” I can’t keep the excitement out of my voice.

“Yes. I help train warriors. The warriors in my division are doing well,” he beams.

“Is it all right for me to train?”

“Yes, Apphia. Every shifter should train; it helps one have better control of their inner counterpart. It’s a mandate to train in every pack in the realm, whether you have a wolf or not,” he explains. We live in a world of shifters who fight for territories and power. Our realm is unstable, and attacks occur unexpectedly; hence, it is important to train to protect oneself.

My father was going against the rules to keep me out of training because he hated me. What a bastard.

“Can you train me?” I ask, suddenly feeling excited. I want to be strong.

“I would be honored to train you,” he says, eyes sparkling with something.

Emiliana removes three granola bars from her little purse and gives them to us, but I shake my head, still full. Drake gets one and eats them in two bites, making a loud burping sound. We laugh.

Nicholas‘ pov

My heart instantly knew that she was watching me. My mate was standing by the window, her eyes. stuck on me. I turned to catch her gaze, her heart pounding in her chest. She was so sheepish, yet she held my gaze. I noticed that Apphia never averts her eye contact, no matter how shy she is.

It meant she had a powerful wolf inside her, even though she couldn’t feel it yet.

“You’re fucking whipped. Look at you, smiling like an idiot right now,” Blade laughs. I can’t help it, however. These are new feelings. I’ve never felt this strongly for anyone before. I didn’t even know it she was possible. I’m still trying to grasp the whole idea of her being my mate. Unfortunately for me, doesn’t feel the mate bond on her side, and I can’t tell her.

“I’m whipped,”
