“You think Apphia is a marked wolf?” I repeat.

“We don’t think. We are sure,” Mom says.

I need help understanding. I look at them for elaboration.

“A marked wolf is a shifter with divine powers. They possess powers that transcend human understanding,” Dad explains. My mother sighs and relaxes in the chair as she begins to explain.

“After discovering that Apphia is immune to all our powers, your grandfather, Mike, and the elder council were intrigued by this information, as this was the first time anyone wasn’t affected by our powers. While searching an ancient library, they discovered a chronicle text. The chronicle details more of the royal abilities and, surprisingly, one immune to them.”

“How does a marked wolf come to be?” I ask.

“By being submerged in the holy golden lake in the beyond after a sacred ritual during an auspicious day and time chosen by the moon goddess,” she answers.

I frown. Sacred lake? I’ve been to the beyond, but I had not seen such a lake.

“How can my Apphia be a marked wolf?”

“We don’t know how, but the magical test the council did on your mate shows that she is a marked wolf. “A magical blood test reveals a shifter’s capacity and status. It can only be performed by the council elders, as they are knowledgeable about it and use ancient ways.

“They did a test without informing me?” I raise an eyebrow. My parents look a little guilty.

“Yes, they did the magical test to know the truth. Other than that, it was discovered that Apphia has alpha blood flowing in her veins.”

My mind is working overtime. It is too much at once. Ten minutes ago, I knew nothing but her name, age, and taste. Now, I’ve discovered she’s a marked wolf with divine powers and an alpha. However, I suspected she could be an alpha because I could sense she was a strong wolf, and she never avoided eye

contact.

‘Our mate is a marked wolf – a wolf with the goddess’s own power flowing within her,‘ Nico beams. Dad ignores my turmoil and places an ancient text before me. It is dark brown, and the cover has an odd pattern that looks like a puzzle. The book looks like it has seen dynasties rise and fall. It is ancient yet has something appealing about it. Maybe it’s the way it briefly sparkles. I touch it, and it vibrates. I flip it open, but it is empty. I glance at my parents.

“It is spelled so that no one can read it, but we learned royal blood opens it,” he says. My father reaches his fingers into my mother’s hair and releases one of the pins holding her strands. He gives it to me.

A marked shifter possesses divine powers from the goddess’s lake; the powers will reveal themselves once they change into their true form. Because of these powers, evil power–seekers seek out marked wolves for their energy and blood. A marked wolf must be protected.

Divine powers are a force of good, but they can cause chaos and devastation in evil hands.

I close the text with a few words. I didn’t care to read about other subjects.

“Powers from the goddess’s lake,” I mumble. How is she a marked wolf? My mate is truly a mystery. Does she know all this? It seems she doesn’t..

“I’m throwing a banquet tomorrow for our friends and family. You must attend, Nicholas,” Mom says. I want the Jones to meet Apphia; maybe Savannah can help with her wolf,”

The Jones are an affluent alpha family in the city, and their pack is the second largest. They are my parents‘ oldest and closest friends. Luna Savannah is a powerful witch.

“We can’t tell Apphia what we learned about her. It will be too much for her,” I tell them. My parents give me a disapproving stare. The two are in sync with their expression. It’s unnerving.

“It is not your secret to keep, son. Apphia has every right to know who she is,” Dad reasons calmly. ” The truth has a way of revealing itself… Sooner or later,”

“I’d rather it is later, then, Dad,”

After the day’s revelations, I was still to face Daisy. She arrived on time, dressed in a suggestive outfit.

“Hello, Alpha,” Daisy purrs, walking inside my

office.
