A smirk touched Claudia's lips before she suddenly raised her hand and slapped Ann across the face.

A crisp sound echoed as the items in Ann's hand fell to the ground.

"Ann," Claudia warned, "as of right now, York and I are still legally married. Provoking me like this won't do you any good."

Ann clutched her stinging cheek, her voice tight with restraint. "If I tell York you hit me, he won't let you get away with it!"

Claudia pulled out her phone. "Should I call him for you right now?"

Ann's eyes darted to the small box on the floor, hiding a flash of panic.

"Miss Watkins, I was just trying to be thoughtful," she said. "After all, York has been spending most of his time with me since I returned. I understand if he's intimate with you occasionally to soothe your emotions. I promise I won't be jealous about it."

Seeing Claudia about to leave, she added, "York promised me he would never let you get pregnant with his child. That's why I thought I'd give you a box, in case you needed it."

Claudia deliberately provoked her back. "He did pin me to the bed last night, but he didn't use this. I told him he should divorce me and make an honest woman out of you, but he refused. Maybe you should try whispering in his ear at night to hurry him along, so you can finally take my place."

A flicker of jealousy crossed Ann's eyes. "You don't have to provoke me, Miss Watkins. York isn't divorcing you for the sake of the bigger picture. We love and understand each other. For York, my son and I are willing to go without official titles for the rest of our lives."

Just then, several black luxury cars pulled up to the curb.

Claudia frowned as she saw York get out.

When Ann saw York, she hastily picked up the small box from the ground, stuffed it in her handbag, and greeted him with a smile. "York, what are you doing here?"

York's gaze lingered for a few seconds on the clear handprint on Ann's cheek. "I'm here to pick up my wife," he said.
