York followed the boy's finger.
Claudia was a striking figure, tall and slender in a cream-colored coat, her long, silky hair falling in soft waves at the ends. She was so beautiful it was hard to look away.
From across the street, their eyes met.
With a calm expression, Claudia raised her phone, focused the camera, and took a picture.
York's eyes darkened.
He handed the child to his driver and started walking toward her.
Before he had taken more than a few steps, Claudia got into a taxi and drove away.
Three years of marriage, and after nearly half a year apart, their reunion was filled with nothing but silence.
Perhaps neither of them had expected to meet again like this.
"Mr. Ferguson, I want to get KFC."
Ethan tugged on York's leg, calling his name several times before York snapped out of his daze.
He lifted Ethan into the car and instructed the driver, "Go to KFC."
An hour later, Peter found York outside the apartment complex where Ann was living.
Peter gestured toward the main gate. "Claudia is back in the country. What are you doing here instead of going to see her?"
York gave Peter a complicated look and got into the car without a word.
Peter stood outside. "Claudia's back. Do you have that priceless pink diamond ring you bought for her with you?"
York dodged the question. "We saw each other at the kindergarten today."
Peter was exasperated. "You ignore your own wife for six months while she's abroad, playing dad to someone else's kid. If I were Claudia, I'd be sick to my stomach!"
York's expression didn't change.
"Ann's mother is out of town for a few days, and Ann couldn't get time off work. She had no choice but to call me," he said.
His tone was unhurried. "Claudia is back for good this time. We have plenty of time."
Peter sighed in resignation. "I'm throwing a welcome party for Claudia tomorrow night. Make sure you're there."
