Claudia didn't even blink, swiping York's supplementary card to pay.
Outside the restaurant, Six pointed to a modified supercar with a two-tone paint job parked by the curb.
Claudia held out her hand for the car keys. "You're not familiar with the roads in Capital City. I'll drive."
Six leaned back defensively. "Claudia, this is a modified, race-spec sports car."
Claudia took the keys, got into the driver's seat, expertly fastened her seatbelt, and started the engine.
She spoke calmly, "I got into racing when I was five. I competed in the children's division of the WRC and even won an award. For a while in college, I was an amateur driver for a racing club. You can trust my driving skills."
Once, she had been dazzling, so full of life.
For York, she had willingly transformed into the person he wanted.
She had reined in her temper, softened her sharp edges, and tried to be the most devoted wife he could want, doing everything she could to break through his emotional walls.
In the end, she was left scarred and broken.
She was pushed into a corner with no way out.
She had learned her lesson. She would never love again.
Learning that Claudia had been an amateur race car driver, Six's eyes lit up. "I want to join a racing club. Can you give me a recommendation?"
"No problem," Claudia replied, then slammed her foot on the accelerator. The car shot forward like an arrow released from a bow.
Just as Claudia and Rock Sayer sped away, Ann stepped out from behind a pillar near the restaurant's entrance.
Seeing York's car pull up, Ann hurried over.
The window rolled down, and York asked, "Where is my wife?"
