Ann ran toward York, but seeing him hold Claudia so intimately, his eyes fixed on his wife, she hesitated and stopped.
With no way out, Ann introduced herself.
"Mr. Hawk, I'm a friend of Celia's. She invited me to come along," she explained.
Just then, a tall, striking woman with an elegant air approached them. "Dad, Ann is my friend."
This was Celia Hawk, President Hawk's most cherished daughter, born out of wedlock.
Thanks to her stunning looks and charisma, she had carved out a minor name for herself in the entertainment industry.
Peter smiled, but his words were laced with venom. "Miss Hawk, even if you can't break into the circle of true heiresses, there's no need to lower yourself by befriending a minor influencer, is there?"
With one sentence, Peter had insulted two people at once.
He had not only reminded everyone that Celia was illegitimate but also made it clear that Ann was a nobody.
Ann knew her place and kept quiet.
Celia, however, wouldn't take Peter's insult lying down. "We are all born equal, and we all earn our living through our own skills. What makes you think you're so superior, Mr. Peter?"
Peter deliberately provoked her. "Just to be clear, I'm nobody's bastard."
His words hit Celia where it hurt.
She was about to lash out when President Hawk stopped her. "Take your friend and leave. Now."
Celia stormed off in a huff.
Seeing this, Ann scurried away like a frightened mouse.
She had schemed so hard to get into an event like this, only to be kicked out before the party even officially started.
