Ethan clutched his stomach and cried out, "Godmother, I'm hungry!"

"Dinner time, dinner time," Claudia quickly announced, ushering everyone into the dining room.

Seeing York hadn't moved, she went to him and took his arm. "They're already here, so let's eat first. If you think something isn't right, we can talk about it tonight."

York's eyes were full of suspicion. "Are you sure?"

Claudia took York's hand and placed it over her heart. "My intentions are sincere."

Rock Sayer couldn't help but grumble, "The kid said he's hungry. Are we going to feed him or not?"

Peter chimed in, "You adults can sort out your issues later. The child is here. Can you show some hospitality?"

York's gaze swept over the two troublemakers at the dining room entrance, and the knot in his chest tightened.

After a lot of pulling, dragging, and sweet-talking, Claudia finally got York into the dining room.

Once everyone was seated, Claudia stood and raised her glass.

Claudia picked up his glass for him, coaxing, "Honey, give me some face."

That one word, "honey," was like a magic spell, making York obediently take the glass.

After the first toast, Claudia spoke again. "I've taken Miss James's child as my godson, so we should see each other more often from now on."

She then gave Ann a subtle look.

Ann stood up and poured her son some juice. "Ethan, hurry and call your godmother and godfather."

Claudia corrected her, "Just call me godmother. There's no need to change how you address my husband."
