"Whether you believe me or not," he said, "my only intention back then was to force you to come home."
Claudia let him hold her hand. "And now?" she asked.
York paused for a moment before continuing, "I can destroy all of this, and I won't hold you to any of it anymore."
Her expression was cautious. "What's the condition?"
"I know some of my actions have hurt you and caused misunderstandings," York said. "From now on, I'll do my best to keep Ann James and her son from disturbing our lives, and I will respect all of your decisions. Just give me a little trust. Stop making trouble, okay?"
Claudia sat there quietly, outwardly calm, but her mind was racing.
Trust him? She couldn't.
But if she could take this opportunity to destroy the leverage he held over her, she had to at least try.
"This could all be a copy," she said, her tone searching. "What makes you think I'd trust you?"
York's gaze was firm. "I can transfer all of my assets to your name. If you still don't feel secure, I can draw up a will stating that all my current and future earnings will be inherited only by you and our future children. Ann James and her son will have no claim."
Claudia's mind worked furiously.
Even if York wrote a will, it would be meaningless to her. If he changed his mind, he had countless ways to ensure she never saw a penny.
As for the "evidence" of her leaking Ferguson Group's confidential files, she couldn't be sure he didn't have a backup.
But for now, destroying the prenuptial agreement she had signed seemed plausible.
After a moment of hesitation, Claudia said, "York, if you stop pressuring and threatening me like before, I'm willing to trust you one more time."
