Ann nervously clutched the packet of powder in her hand.
The method was risky, but it was a shortcut. If she could really get pregnant with York's child, everything would fall into place.
Ann studied Claudia's expression, testing her. "Mrs. Ferguson, that's easy for you to say now. But the drug is in my hands. If I get caught, it's game over for me. What happens then?"
People were inherently self-serving. No matter how nice Claudia sounded, if things got out of hand, she could easily turn on her to save herself, and Ann would be finished.
Claudia hadn't expected Ann to be so cautious. But to succeed, she needed to use some extreme measures. If she could have done it alone, she wouldn't have needed to team up with Ann.
"You were scared when I suggested you let me be the godmother, but that worked out, didn't it?" Claudia said patiently. "You were afraid to move into the apartment upstairs, but now you're living there just fine."
"You haven't even tried, so how do you know it won't work? And even in the worst-case scenario, if you get caught, just do what you did the last two times and blame it all on me."
Seeing Ann still hesitating, Claudia's expression hardened. "Ann, if you're going to be this timid, then our partnership is over!"
York was afraid of his grandfather, too afraid to risk bringing Ann and her son into his family openly. For now, he was clinging to Claudia as a shield. He even lied about sending Ann and her son away just to pacify her and balance his relationship with both of them.
This couldn't go on forever. She needed to use a strong dose to lock those two together, only then could she hope to break free.
Seeing the change in Claudia's face, Ann gritted her teeth and nodded. "Alright, I'll try."
The two of them left the restroom and ran right into Darleen.
Ann and Claudia exchanged a look before quickly moving past her.
Darleen tried to stop Ann, but Claudia blocked her.
Darleen stomped her foot in frustration. "Claudia, why are you being so nice to her?"
