Mark recounted the whole story of meeting Ann and getting beaten up by his wife and sister-in-law.
"Getting hit by your wife is nothing to be ashamed of," York consoled him. "Just bear with it a little longer."
Seeing Mark's dejected expression, York added, "Once this is over, I'll give you a month of paid leave and double your year-end bonus."
Mark instantly perked up. "Mr. Ferguson, Miss James borrowed ten thousand from me."
York frowned. Even in such dire straits, Ann hadn't contacted Ethan's biological father for help.
Who was this man behind her? And was he directly connected to Thorne's death? What was Ann hiding?
...
When Claudia returned to the room that afternoon, York was alone.
He held out a hand to her. "Help me to the bathroom."
Claudia stood her ground. "York, your legs aren't broken. Do you really need to be so dramatic?"
"You promised to take care of me," York reminded her. "Is this how you do it? You won't even help me up?"
Reluctantly, she went to help him. "Maybe I should just have Ann come take care of you."
Before she could finish, York pushed her away. He walked to the bathroom with a perfectly steady gait, leaving Claudia speechless. It seemed she would just have to endure this until he was discharged.
A knock on the door announced Rock's arrival. Seeing Claudia's troubled expression, he teased, "What are you thinking about? Your eyebrows are practically tied in a knot."
