"I promise I'll go to city hall on Monday," he said. "Just... spend this weekend with me. Please?"
Claudia subtly pushed him away. "I hope you keep your word."
That night, neither of them slept well. Claudia tossed and turned in bed, while York spent the long hours sleepless in his study.
The next day was Saturday. Around noon, Claudia rallied her spirits and accompanied York to Ferguson Mansion. As they got out of the car, York took her hand. She met his cautious, gentle gaze and didn't pull away. That old man at the Ferguson estate was no fool. It was best not to announce the divorce just yet, to avoid any unnecessary complications.
Sewell and Wendy had mixed expressions when they saw the two walk into the living room holding hands.
Old Mr. Ferguson said, "It seems you two have decided to make things work. In that case, you should have a child as soon as possible."
York and Claudia exchanged a look but neither nodded nor shook their heads.
After dinner, York and Claudia left. Sewell remarked, "I knew she wouldn't divorce York. Where would she find a husband as exceptional as him if she left the Ferguson family?"
Wendy shot Sewell a look, then turned and went back to her room with a frown.
As they drove, Claudia noticed the scenery becoming more and more familiar. "Where are you taking me?" she asked York.
He glanced over at her, one hand on the steering wheel, the other reaching over to rest on her arm. "We're almost there," he said.
Soon, the car pulled up to the gate of the house they had lived in after they were married.
