No Divorce? The Billionaire's Love Chase! novel Chapter 387

When Claudia came out after packing, she found the door to York's study shut tight. She made herself a small meal, ate it, and went back to her room to rest.

Though she appeared calm, a knot of anxiety tightened in her stomach. She wished Monday morning would come sooner.

Late that night in the study, York stood alone by the French windows, smoking. Several empty liquor bottles littered the coffee table behind him. The ticking of the clock on the wall grated on his nerves, making him restless and agitated.

On Sunday morning, Claudia found herself with nothing to do and went to the kitchen to make breakfast. York followed her in and approached her side. "Let me help," he offered.

Seeing him reach for the eggs, she turned off the stove to stop him.

York grabbed her wrist, his eyes pleading. "I just want to make breakfast with you. Can't I even do that?"

Claudia took the egg from his hand. "York, I'll be honest," she said, her voice weary. "I can't bring myself to eat anything you've touched, let alone anything you've made yourself. It just makes me think of the blueberry cake you baked for Ann."

York's face contorted with a pain that was impossible to describe. He stared at her, speechless. "Claudia, I know I was wrong. What can I do to make you forgive me?"

She countered with a question of her own. "If you were me, could you get over it?"

They stared at each other in silence. York turned and left the kitchen.

A dozen minutes later, Claudia sat alone at the dining table, looking at the breakfast she had just prepared. She had lost her appetite.

In the study, York lay on the sofa, feeling utterly drained. He had run out of energy, and out of options.
